Job overview

This post is permanent and fulltime to meet the needs of the Children Looked After Service.

The post holder will work to support the role of the Children Looked After Nurses maintaining and promoting the health needs of the children looked after within the West area. Based within a community setting, the Nursery Nurse will provide a service to families/carers as identified in the needs assessment carried out by the team.

The post holder will take a key role in delivering parenting/carer support,health promotion and programmes of care on an individual basis and group work. The post holder will be an important member of a skill mix team, contributing to the overall health care offered to individuals, families and communities.

Main duties of the job

Support Children Looked After Nurses in delivering health promotion within home, clinic and other community based settings as agreed.

Contribute to the implementation of the Health Care Plan as per Health Board, and / or service level agreement and directed by the Children Looked After Nurses .

Following initial assessment by Children Looked After Nurses or Paediatrician , carry out delegated programmes / packages of care or follow up health needs at home or in clinic.

Undertake screening and/or other health related and developmental assessments.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BTEC level 3 Diploma in Early Years Or CACHE Diploma in Child care and Education, Level 3 (2 year course) Or NVQ/QCF level 3 in Early Years and Education Or NNEB/National diploma in childhood studies
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ/QCF level 4 in Early Years and Education

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working with infants and children and parents/carers.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in community or health related field. Experience of facilitating groups.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good organisational skills.  Ability to plan own work  Ability to work in a team and develop a good working relationship with other agencies  Excellent communication skills  Computer literate e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Desirable criteria
  • Clear communication methods for young people and carers / parents with a disability

  • Awareness of current Welsh Government initiatives pertaining to Children and Families  Working knowledge of All Wales child protection procedures  Child development  Knowledge of child behavior management techniques.  Awareness of the importance of play in relation to the stages of child development
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of behaviour management techniques  Able to discuss recent advances in the sphere of public health.
