In recognition of the vital role that podiatrists play in supporting clients to live healthy and fulfilled lives, the Trust has invested in 2 podiatry apprenticeship posts, working in collaboration with the University of Sunderland.
This is a developmental role via the Podiatry (Integrated Degree) Apprenticeship standard (Ref ST0493) over 3 years.
You will work towards successful completion of a BSc (Hons) degree in podiatry and recognition by the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an Allied Health Professional AHP Podiatrist.
You will develop and maintain knowledge, skills and competencies related to the role of a Podiatrist through your apprenticeship within the service as well as through completion of the Podiatry Apprenticeship training programme.
This includes working in clinic and community care settings, and delivery of direct person-centred care. Whilst undertaking this training you will work within the service as a Podiatry Apprentice, where your role will reflect your learning.
The Podiatry Apprenticeship Programme combines and integrates academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between The Trust and the university of Sunderland . You can expect to spend 60% of your time learning on the job and 40% of your time learning off the job.
Main duties of the job
As a Podiatry Apprentice you will be based as an employee within South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, working in a variety of clinical settings. This will enable you to gain a wide appreciation of many health and care contexts, which will enable you to fulfil all the requirements of the BSc (Hons) Podiatry programme.The main clinical duties of the role involve providing foot care to patients within agreed competencies and training as delegated by the Podiatrist.
You will also be involved in providing foot health education and advice to patients, relatives and carers. You may be asked to support the podiatry team in delivering foot health education training to other health professionals . The post also involves assisting in minor surgery sessions within the scope of instructions laid down by the Podiatrist.
You will need to be self-motivated and able to manage the competing demands of working full time alongside studying for a degree level qualification. It goes without saying that you will also need to be passionate about Podiatry. Please answer these following questions in your application:

Grade C (4) in GCSE English and Maths . Level 2 equivalent literacy & numeracy qualifications will be accepted.
Plus one of the following:
- 120 UCAS points from 3 A levels. Or equivalent from national BTEC qualifications e.g.: extended diploma in applied science, health science or health studies.
- Successful completion of an Access to HE Diploma in health studies, health science, nursing, or another science-based course.
- Previous degree in a related subject.
- Evidence of successful formal accredited study at level 3 and a minimum of 6 months experience in a health and social care capacity.
Person specification
Knowledge & Skills
Essential criteria- Ability to assist patients to achieve safe working environments for treatments to be carried out.
- Ability to perform treatments in a variety of settings such as clinics, residential homes, patients own homes and nursing care sites.
- Sufficient keyboard skills for data input and letter writing and ability to use MS office or similar internet and email
- Ability to use patient information systems to input data and clinical treatment
- Ability to plan, organise and co-ordinate work under own initiative, be flexible and prioritise competing demands for attention to provide best care available to patients in case which may involve changing plans where necessary.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, confident and articulate
Qualifications & Training
