An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to work within our Non-Sterile Pharmacy Production Unit of the Technical Services department based within Main Pharmacy.

If you are a team player with an ability to work under your own initiative, can work under pressure to deadlines, have a good level of dexterity, good communication skills, a high level of accuracy and are keen to develop your skills this could be the job for you.

Consideration will be given for strong candidates who may not meet the essential criteria, to undertake this role on a developmental basis with set competency targets. Roles offered on a development basis will be banded lower than originally advertised until competency targets are met.

For this role you will be required to lift and handle potentially heavy boxes, stand for long periods of time, work within a confined space and wear appropriate PPE including a clean room suit.

Main duties of the job

Under qualified supervision, prepare non-sterile products on a small-scale manufacturing or assembly basis; operating and maintaining the equipment used for these procedures and at times fulfil individual prescriptions.

You are expected to be adaptable and be able to adhere to written Standard Operating Procedures for the work undertaken in this regulated cleanroom environment.

Accuracy, consistency and attention to detail are essential requirements for the post, as well as assisting with facility cleaning and stock lifting and handling.

You will aid the Non-Sterile Production Unit Leader in the day-to-day running of the unit, supervise various aspects of stock control and work with a team of Pharmacy Assistants & other Senior Pharmacy Assistants to ensure a quality service producing over-labelled, repacked and manufactured pharmaceutical products for the Trust and external customers.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Working within a team

  • Previous experience of working in a cleanroom, laboratory based or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • ‘O’ Level / GCSE Maths, English and a Science subject, or equivalent
  • NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services, or an equivalent level of experience
Desirable criteria
  • A Level Maths, English and a Science subject, or equivalent

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Sound knowledge of metric measurements
  • Confidentiality
Desirable criteria
  • Working with specialist manufacturing equipment
  • Familiarity with Windows based applications (e.g stock control systems)
  • Knowledge of non-sterile production areas and the products prepared
