Typical annual pay range for this position is £140,000.00 - £160,000.00. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.
About the Opportunity
Merrick & Company UK Limited (Merrick UK) is seeking an experienced Life Sciences Market Sector Leader (MSL) with a background in U.K. and European laboratory and R&D projects, environments, and programs to lead growth in our life sciences, pharmaceutical, and laboratory market. As the UK Life Sciences MSL, you will represent Merrick and our technical capabilities across the UK and serve as the primary point of contact for all UK life sciences, pharmaceutical and laboratory projects delivering architecture and engineering design services and technical quality and operational performance consulting services. Successful candidates will be results driven and able to demonstrate:
- Market engagement that positions Merrick UK for future opportunities by identifying, developing and fostering market relationships.
- Technical understanding for the appropriate application of principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to Merrick’s Life Sciences capabilities.
- Excellent background in laboratory and life sciences facilities project lifecycles and operational program requirements, enabling representation of Merrick’s capabilities and thought-leadership expertise.
- Customer service that anticipates and meets the needs of both internal and external customers to deliver high-quality products and services.
- Business acumen to assess and plan for the risks and resources needed to successfully deliver solutions on small (£500K to £5M) to major (£100M to greater than £1B) life sciences projects.
This position is a full-time work from home position with a moderate volume of travel (up to 60%) for client and market engagement. Travel estimates: 40% day trips throughout the London, Cambridge, Oxford region; 10% overnight across the broader United Kingdom and European Union; 10% United States or other locations.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the identification and development of all UK life sciences and laboratory design, commissioning, and consulting projects, reporting to the Sr. Vice President (SVP) of Merrick Life Sciences, with day-to-day coordination with the Director of UK Operations.
- Develop strategies and tactics for life sciences and laboratory design market expansion, working closely with the life sciences leadership team to integrate and execute strategies.
- Leverage network of client and partners to obtain client meetings and grow the life sciences and laboratory design portfolio.
- Lead and/or support business development meetings, conferences, client meetings, and other events in the UK and EU.
- Contribute to annual planning and budgeting activities with the life sciences SVP and Business Unit Leader.
- Work closely with the Merrick Life Sciences Director of Projects, discipline, and technical leads, to transition opportunities into execution strategies, including project management schemes, resourcing, and contract negotiations.
- Participate with the SVP and Director of UK Operations in presenting higher-risk projects to executive leadership.
- Attend and present at select industry events and conferences; participates in thought-leadership activities that include presentations, publications, webinars, etc.
- Utilize proficiency and professionalism to author and support development and delivery of superb quality project and business development documents, tools, and presentations.
- Implement quality control measures in accordance with Merrick and Client requirements to draft and manage consistency in documents and presentations.
- Become familiar and comply with Merrick’s project management systems, procedures and reporting protocols, and report regularly to Merrick senior management on project performance.
- Support a team of Discipline Leads, Program Managers, and Project Managers to ensure technical and project deliverables are accurate, proofed, consistent, and professional.
- Support and integrate Merrick and Client branding efforts across a wide spectrum of products and deliverables.
- Integrate with and support Discipline Leads on the development and composition of proposals for laboratory design, commissioning, and consulting opportunities.
- Communicate and coordinate with all project stakeholders as required for successful project execution.
- Be able to obtain low-level security clearance and background checks for work with the UK Government and Commercial clients.
- Implement excellent multi-tasking skills to support product delivery from a wide team of Project Managers and Technical Leads.
- Apply analytical skills to project approaches, standards, and solutions, throughout project lifecycle.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor’s degree or Level 6 NVQ or greater in architecture or engineering, or related field.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of professional experience in the life sciences and laboratory design and consulting market(s).
- Demonstrated market leadership in the life sciences and laboratory domains with respect to developing strategy for market penetration and expansion, managing a diverse portfolio of laboratory facilities projects, strategic planning, proposal development, and client account management.
- Proficiency with PC-based software including expert-level experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Project, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, and PDF creation applications.
- Experience in technical editing and proposal writing in a life sciences project environment.
- Good working knowledge of the biocontainment, biosafety and biosecurity field, emerging technologies, government/academic/industrial programs.
- Team player with a positive attitude who possesses excellent organizational, strategic, communication, and client management skills; and the ability to work with project managers, discipline leads, project teams, and business development personnel.
- Must be reliable, detail oriented, able to follow established formats and procedures, and perform well under deadlines while working with multiple levels of internal staff and teaming partners, coordinating multiple projects and multiple deadlines.
- Ability to do moderate travel, including internationally, for project work and business development.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Professional architecture or engineer registration or certification.
- Prior experience with multiple delivery and execution methodologies, including design-bid-build, design-build, integrated project delivery.
- Working knowledge and/or experience with non-life sciences laboratories and technical facilities (e.g., nuclear, aerospace, food & personal care, technology & manufacturing).
