Specialist Doctor in Ophthalmology (with Paediatric subspecialty)

A post has arisen for an experienced ophthalmologist to work within the paediatric ophthalmology team. Other roles may include delivery adult motility services, cataract surgery or general ophthalmology dependent upon the successful candidate’s skills.
This post will be based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne, but may involve clinics and operating at outreach sites. All routine cataract surgery takes place at the Newcastle Westgate Cataract Centre which is a mile from the RVI.
Job Purpose:
To work in the paediatric ophthalmology team. Work will include paediatric clinics, theatre as well as adult motility surgery as well as some general work and cataract surgery. If CST is obtained the position of consultant can be considered.

- To provide surgical and outpatient ophthalmology services including that of paediatric ophthalmology department
- To contribute to the work of the Emergency Eye Department to a degree dependent on the agreed nature of the job plan
Administrative:
- To ensure communication with other healthcare professionals occurs in an effective and timely manner.
- To develop an appropriate managerial role to assist with the running of the department.
Research:
- This is encouraged.
Teaching:
- To contribute to the undergraduate and postgraduate ophthalmology teaching programmes.
- To contribute to the training of non-medical practitioners and community optometrists
