Your next role: The Clinical Lead MHP will work closely with the Clinical Director to support and manage DCA MHPs ensuring they provide a safe and high-quality clinical care to our patients.

The postholder will be responsible managing any clinical escalations and providing clinical supervision for Mental Health Practitioners (MHPs). They will be subject matter experts in Mental Health. They will work closely with the operational team, to ensure there is a safe and effective MHP workforce.

They will also work on ad hoc projects with members of the clinical management and leadership team, and the wider DCA staff, to ensure DCA are driving continual improvement. The postholder will also be required to provide clinical expertise to DCA clinicians as part of the Clinical Lead on call rota during working hours.

The postholder will undertake additional responsibility as the named nurse for safeguarding, working alongside the named GP lead for safeguarding. The postholder will work a minimum of 18 hours on the DCA platform every week to maintain an awareness of the product and service, alongside maintaining their own professional registration.

The remaining contracted 22 hours will be focused on the below responsibilities.

Salary: £62,409.50 per annum

The post is a full time role of 40 hours a week - 18 hrs / 0.45 FTE DCA platform consulting/22 hrs / 0.55 FTE focused on Clinical management

Requirements
  • Provide supervision and second line management to a cohort of Mental Health Practitioners, including Post Start Reviews and annual reviews
  • Work closely with the operational team, and providing support with any management escalations relating to the clinical workforce
  • Provide clinical expertise into a range of activities including but not limited to:
  • Feedback from clinician quality assurance
  • Clinical and prescribing audits relating to mental health and safeguarding
  • Clinically complex incidents and complaints
  • Clinician education
  • Other non-patient facing activities that require clinical input
  • Form part of the clinical escalation to support the management and resolution of clinical escalations from DCA clinicians dealing with mental health presentations and safeguarding concerns.
  • Ensure the correct application of clinical judgement, policies and protocols are followed and reduce the likelihood of any complaints or safety breeches by DCA clinicians.
  • Has responsibility for developing policy and procedure relating to Mental Health Practice across the organisation on behalf of the Clinical Director.
  • Participate in the delivery of clinical leadership for the development of Mental Health Practice and safeguarding across the organisation, in addition to attending safeguarding leadership meetings.
  • Participate and co-ordinate in audit, Research & Development initiatives relating to Mental Health Practitioner roles ensuring integration with key performance indicators
  • Conduct clinical audits to ensure compliance with policies and protocols and to identify areas of non-compliance and / or underperformance.
  • Ensure that the service provides safe, high quality care by managing the professional issues associated with the clinical workforce and the services provided by DCA clinicians.
  • Support initiatives in line with DCA strategic priorities by acting as clinical SMEs
  • Identify clinical risk areas in the development and improvement of services, working with the relevant teams to develop processes to mitigate any risk.
  • Maintain own continuing professional development and knowledge of relative clinical guidelines and standards.
Education/Experience
  • NMC Registered Mental Health Nurse
  • Minimum of two years experience as a Mental Health Nurse within in Primary Care or General Practice, practicing at Band 8a or above
  • Independent prescribing qualification
  • Leadership and/or management qualification / training (Desirable)
  • Safeguarding Level 4 (Desirable)
  • A minimum 3 years’ clinical practice in primary care as a Mental Health Practitioner
  • A minimum 1 years’ experience of clinical work in a digital/virtual primary care environment
  • A minimum of 1 year experience of managing clinical teams, preferably within a remote healthcare setting.
  • Understanding national and local policy relating to Primary care
  • Sound understanding of the legal and regulatory frameworks that underpin clinical service delivery in the UK
  • Sound understanding of the principles of Quality Improvement and its application
  • Demonstrable experience of involvement in clinical governance processes
  • Demonstrable experience of project management
  • Demonstrable track record of delivering evidenced based practice and utilizing research in practice
  • Ability to work to a deadline and prioritise workload.
  • Time management skills with an ability to act on own initiative and be both self directed and motivated in the work environment.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including verbal, written and presentation skills, together with excellent listening skills including facilitation
  • High energy levels, an innovative approach and ability to inspire and enthuse others
  • Computer literate (Microsoft office) and can work with or rapidly adopt skills in New Clinical IT systems, Jira, Slack, MS Teams, Miro.
