Job overview
The HCA within sexual health services will work in a busy integrated sexual health environment, within a multidisciplinary team. The staffing structure is designed to support the delivery of core services at the service hubs & spokes in at a variety of locations throughout Derbyshire.The post holder will be responsible for delivering planned, high-quality care that supports the service aim in providing an effective service that responds to the sexual health needs of all service users attending the department.
Main duties of the job
To be able to demonstrate through training, experience within the specialism of sexual health, the key STIs (including HIV), their transmission, clinical presentation, and diagnosis.
Provide quality care and behave in a professional manner at all times in order to meet agreed Trust and National standards when undertaking procedures.
To give or electronically send sexual health and contraception information to patients and issue of condoms when required.
Able to assess patients’ level of understanding and experience in relation to consent to undergo clinical procedures (including HIV testing) and refer complex clients/clinical situations where appropriate to senior staff.
With the appropriate training, to provide support and assistance with Vasectomy clinics and assist the surgeon during the vasectomy procedure.
Ensure clinic environment is properly prepared to a high standard to receive patients, including stocking of equipment, cleaning down of equipment and ensuring a tidy environment before clinic and ensure that this standard is maintained throughout the working day, and the clinic is clean and tidy at the end of the clinic session.
Assist the registered nurses and doctors with assessment of clinical needs, chaperoning patients and supporting within the clinical setting in a responsive and professional manner.
Adapt communication styles to the individual to ensure maximum understanding of care provided.

Education and Training
Essential criteria- GCSE Maths & English (C or above)
- Educated to NVQ 2 level in a relevant subject or equivalent level of qualification or equivalent previous proven experience
- IT literacy skills
- Venepuncture training (or willingness to undertake training on appointment)
