Are you ready to lead the well-established Paediatric Emergency Department nursing team at the Royal London Hospital; one of the busiest EDs in London, in one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK and one of the leading healthcare providers in the country?
The successful candidate will benefit from being part of a dynamic ED leadership team and being part of an organisation that has firmly established itself as a value-based organization on a journey to receive a CQC rating of good and outstanding.

As a senior leadership team we are incredibly proud of the safety and team culture in our Emergency Department and its ability to attract and retain staff. The well-being and development of our nursing staff is mission-critical in our ambition to be seen as an employer of choice for those who want to work in Emergency Care.

The post holder provides forward-thinking clinical and professional leadership to nursing staff at all levels within the service group, ensuring the nursing care is delivered to a high standard and that the nursing resource is managed effectively.

They will contribute to the ongoing clinical development of the team, ensuring achievement of its objectives and strive to develop nursing roles in accordance with patient and service needs.

  • The post holder will provide strong clinical and professional leadership and management to the paediatric nursing team in the Emergency Department (ED). The clinical leadership will focus predominately on the Paediatric ED but professional management and service improvement will include themes applicable to the entire department.
  • This post will require a flexibility as the needs of the service require. There will be a requirement to work closely with the ED matron and senior nursing team to ensure that the matron workload is met and delivered. This role is not exclusive to Paediatric ED and the post holder will need to be comfortable working in adult ED and develop their skills as necessary, particularly with regards to governance and leadership.
  • The post holder will develop and influence the strategic direction of the Paediatric ED within Royal London Hospital, Barts Health and the wider healthcare economy and be critical to the development of a service improvement agenda for paediatric services in the context of Emergency Services at the Royal London Hospital.
  • It is expected the Lead Nurse spends not less than 60% on planned clinical activity. The remaining 40% will comprise strategic leadership, management and service improvement functions. The post holder must therefore possess expertise in clinical management, risk evaluation, change management and service improvement.
