Join us as an Estates Mechanical Lead Technician, playing a key part of the Estates Operations function carrying out planned and reactive maintenance to help us provide the best environment for patients, visitors and staff.

Main duties of the job
  • Working with other trades, you will carry out planned/unplanned maintenance on the trust estate.
  • We will offer you a varied role where no two days are the same. All we ask in return is some flexibility to carry out maintenance tasks and emergency calls outside normal clinical times.
  • The shift rota will be 7.15am – 6.00pm, 4 days per week with 1 rolling rest day. On-call duties will be required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To ensure Mechanical plant operations are maintained to provide the correct service and environmental conditions within the Trust Estate.
  • In conjunction with the Estate Managers and Supervisors, deliver the repair and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) mechanical service activity to ensure compliance with statute and best practice, and customer satisfaction.
  • To carry out complex/non-routine/routine mechanical work on engineering services, equipment and systems, including multi-skilled working in other trades as necessary, in accordance with current regulations and legislation.
  • Provides technical advice to other estates maintenance staff or contractors, to ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures
  • This role includes on call duties, and some flexibility with start and finish times will be required dependent upon clinical operational restrictions

This role is a key part of the Estates Delivery function, working with colleagues in a friendly and supportive team where everyone has the opportunity to be the best they can be and which ensures that our diverse experiences are valued and respected.

This role will be required to carry out maintenance outside of main clinical times and some flexibility of shift times will be required.

Overtime duties may be required by this role.

Person specification

knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience and knowledge of repair and maintenance of mechanical assets
  • Experience of multi skilled trades acquired through training / experience
  • Knowledge / awareness of asbestos, water ,electrical and mechanical safety
  • experience of supervising/mentoring staff and/or contractors
  • experience of solving technical issues, fault diagnosis and solution finding
  • Experienced in the use of IT based control systems
  • Holds a current driving licence
  • Appropriate qualification and/or Training/experience of practical relevant work
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of NHS Technical Guidance
  • Knowledge and experience of range of building engineering services
  • Specialist knowledge/experience in electrical systems – ie LV infrastructure, fire alarms, control systems, electrical maintenance
  • Knowledge of works within hospital environments
