Health & Safety Adviser

apartmentEmanuel School placeLondon calendar_month

This is an exciting opportunity to further develop your career in Health & Safety and play a key role promoting a positive Health & Safety culture at Emanuel School.

The role

As a Health & Safety Adviser, you will cover all aspects of health and safety compliance at the school, working across a variety of areas, including fire safety, occupational health, construction, safe handling of machinery and control of hazardous substances.

Working closely with external health & safety professionals and colleagues from across the school, you will carry out an audit of school policies, procedures, properties and facilities, ensuring that the school is compliant with legislation, and prepared for an Independent Schools Inspectorate inspection.

In addition to this, you will prepare papers for the Health & Safety Committee on a termly basis, as well as monitor and oversee all relevant safety documentation and certification.

About you

You will be a well-qualified health and safety professional, with a NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or currently working towards certification). You will pair this with broad property related legislative and technical knowledge, as well as an understanding of Occupational Health & Safety.

You will possess previous experience as a health & safety lead in a large and complex organisation and will be adept at managing Occupational Health & Safety and ensuring regulatory compliance. In addition to this, you will also need experience of developing policies and procedures and health and safety management processes.

Working at Emanuel

There is always a buzz at Emanuel. Colleagues enjoy their work and, like the pupils, are ambitious for the school. With a weekly staff briefing, half termly staff meetings, termly consultative group meetings and a common room committee, all of us are engaged in a lively ongoing dialogue about the school’s aims and aspirations.

Everyone works hard here, and anyone joining us should expect to do the same and share our commitment to the highest standards. At the same time our ethos remains unpretentious, kindly and practical, and there’s a strong sense of community and friendship at the school.

We aim to look after our staff well: we have an appraisal scheme with a focus on employees’ professional development; we sponsor postgraduate courses and a range of training opportunities; we offer salary sacrifice childcare vouchers through TEDS Premier, we offer a healthcare plan via Simply Health that includes counselling and medical support; and we’re committed to supporting staff wellbeing.

Financially, all staff benefit from good pension provision and free lunches.

Please note that this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and is subject to a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
