Aim of the role To provide the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) with a learning environment which will enable the student to develop knowledge, skills, and competencies to take on the role of a qualified SCPHN within a defined pathway.

To gain the knowledge and skills and competence required in order to exercise higher levels of judgment, discretion and decision making in clinical care focusing on four broad areas: Clinical practice Community Engagement Clinical practice development Leadership in clinical practice The post of the SCPHN Sponsorship Student is a development post building on existing knowledge, skills, and competencies to achieve a higher level of practice resulting in an academic qualification as well as a recordable/registerable qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

The SCPHN course is studied at Level 7 for Post-Graduate Diploma. Applicants will have a second class or above (2:2 classification) honours degree in a relevant subject from an approved higher education institution. Clinically experienced, health professionals without a degree who have evidence of masters level CPPD (level 7) study undertaken within the last five years will also be considered.
The applicant must be registered with the NMC for a minimum period of 1 year prior to application. Key working relationships Internal Colleagues: Within 0-19 services including, Health Visitors, School Nurses, FNP nurses, Community staff nurses and community nursery nurses, BFI Infant Feeding Coordinator, admin colleagues, GP practices, UTC staff, Safeguarding team and Domestic Violence Coordinators.
Other THGPCG Colleagues such as Advocacy and Interpreting staff, CEPN team, Communications and IT colleagues for EMIS and data collection. External Colleagues: Midwifery colleagues, Acute and Secondary care colleagues at the Royal London Hospital (RLH) and Barts nursing and medical staff, Integrated Therapists and Community Paediatricians, Early Years and Childrens centres staff, Education and Schools colleagues.
Social care staff, Primary Care Network staff, London Borough Tower Hamlets (LBTH) Colleagues such as Early Help, Housing, Public Health Commissioning colleagues as appropriate. Key result areas To develop/build on skills of caseload and team leadership and management To work within University Regulations pertaining to academic work and student conduct.
To work within employing organisational policies as they pertain to the relevant clinical setting . To work within employing organisational policies relating to employee responsibilities. Main duties and responsibilities The fundamental responsibilities of the post holder are to attain the academic credentials and the clinical skills required to practice as a NMC registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse on a defined pathway.
These are summarised below: To fulfil the requirements of the Specialist Community Practitioner programme by attending university course dates and practice placement days in accordance with University regulations. To work with the Standards for Students Supervision and Assessment (SSSA)/supervisor and assessors to develop the skills and competencies to achieve NMC Registration Standards for Specialist Community Practice.

You will be supported by the Practice Assessors, Practice Supervisors and the University's Link Lecture to achieve your proficiencies in accordance with the NMC. To demonstrate an understanding of current and emerging national, regional and local healthcare legislation, policies and guidelines as they pertain to the chosen pathway.
