Overview:

Due to our increasing trajectory of growth here at GB Railfreight, we have an opening for an additional Asset Delivery Assistant to strengthen our team in the control of locomotives and wagons to achieve maintenance requirements, drive fleet efficiency and asset utilisation whilst supporting the commercial fleet requirements of the business.

This is a key role for a critical thinking individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and can bring knowledge of the rail freight industry.

The Asset Delivery Assistant will oversee the scheduled maintenance and repair of GBRf Traction and Rolling Stock, liaising as necessary with the Control and Planning departments to ensure that locomotive moves are completed as efficiently as possible and that the day to day and short-term planning arrangements enable the contracted maintainers to achieve timely and cost-effective turn-round of assets.

This role will be based in our Peterborough office with occasional travel to our Doncaster office as and when required. The salary on offer for this role is £41,327 and encompasses a shift allowance. This is a rostered position covering 7 days a week with shifts ranging between the hours 05:30 – 18:30 (05:30 – 13:30/08:30 – 18:30)

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Asset Control Manager for the control of locos and wagons during the current working week in accordance with the plans created by Fleet Planners the previous week.
  • Liaise and support the Fleet Planning Team (Locos and Wagons) to ensure that plans are robust, complete and achievable each week.
  • Work with Control teams and Duty Control Managers to ensure that fleet maintenance requirements are given sufficient priority when competing with commercial priorities.
  • Work with maintenance suppliers and 3rd party planners to integrate scheduled maintenance plans and ad hoc requirements.
  • Provide cover for annual leave and absence within the Asset Control teams (Locos and Wagons).
  • Support Asset Managers to refine and develop more efficient and effective maintenance plans over time through a process of Continuous Improvement.
  • Assist the Asset Control Manager execution of weekly ad hoc moves through ensuring resources are in place and assisting TSC/ DCM during times of perturbation.
  • Act as the controlling mind during significant incidents ensuring associated costs are managed and captured.
  • Responsible for assisting the Asset Control Manager in the control of locos and wagons during the current working week in accordance with the plans created by Asset Planners the previous week.
  • Assist the Asset Control Manager in developing the day-to-day wagon plan across all the GBRf yards to ensure the maintenance/ad hoc moves are achieved
  • Assist the Asset Control Manager setting up an Asset Control ultimately aiming for 7 days per week on day shifts.

Qualifications:

Essential
  • G.C.S.E’s (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics Grade C or above
  • Experience gained within the Rail industry
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Works well and remains calm under pressure
  • Competent with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, Powerpoint, Teams)
  • Clean UK driving license
  • Flexible and willing to travel within the UK
Desirable
  • Technical knowledge in traction and rolling stock engineering
  • Specific knowledge relating to the GBRf operation including geographical locations, operating plans and traction and rolling stock
  • Knowledge of Power BI, TOPS, CRONUS, IFM.
  • Knowledge of GBRf operations
