Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Clinic Co-Ordinator to join our Private Patient Services Team, in the East Point Consulting Rooms at the James Paget Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The Co-Ordinator role is a highly diverse, demanding but rewarding role, working as part of a friendly, dynamic team. It is essential that the successful applicant has proven medical secretarial experience, the ability to type to a high standard and the desire to develop and learn new skills and competencies.

You must also have excellent communication skills and the ability to work under pressure.

The successful candidate will have the confidence and enthusiasm to take on the challenges of this role and experience to manage a high workload. Applicants must be organised, have the ability to work under their own initiative and be able to prioritise a competing workload.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for booking and scheduling clinics and patient appointments, typing clinic letters, dealing with telephone queries, dealing with incoming post, updating the Healthcode appointment system, face to face communication with patients and consultants on a daily basis and taking payments.

Flexible working may be required in order to meet the needs of the service.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Typing qualifications to RSA II or equivalent experience
  • Good general standard of literacy and numeracy
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of medical terminology/AMSPAR qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous digital/audio typing experience
  • Previous secretarial experience
  • Working knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Outlook, Excel
  • Working knowledge and experience of using appointment booking systems
Desirable criteria
  • Previous digital/audio typing experience
  • Working knowledge and experience of using NHS systems

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and maintain concentration in a pressurised working environment
  • Demonstrate good organisational skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative, prioritise work and consistently meet deadlines
  • Customer care skills including diplomacy and sensitivity
