We are on the lookout for a Game Design Team Lead to join us in Switch Studio. Switch Studios Ipswich is an established developer of high-quality casino table games for online and mobile platforms, and we are working with some of the biggest players in the iGaming industry.

As part of Switch Studios, you would be working for one of the foremost providers of gaming technology in the world.

The Games Design Team Lead is responsible for overseeing the creation and delivery of game concepts from initial ideation through to development-ready work packages. The role involves managing a team of game designers, mathematicians, technical writers, and artists to ensure that every aspect of the game is crafted with precision and meets both creative and technical requirements.

This role requires strong leadership, project management skills, and deep knowledge of game design processes.

Responsibilities:

What you’ll do:

Team Leadership & Management:
  • Lead and manage a team consisting of game designers, mathematicians, technical writers, and artists.
  • Facilitate collaboration between departments to ensure that all game components align with the overall project vision.
  • Conduct daily scrums, regular team meetings, provide guidance, and ensure timely delivery of individual contributions.
  • Lead the review and improvement of team processes, ensuring ongoing evaluation and refinement to optimize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Implement a continuous improvement approach, identifying opportunities for innovation, streamlining workflows, and enhancing team performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to assess current practices, gather feedback, and develop actionable plans for process enhancements.
  • Monitor progress and outcomes of process changes, adjusting as needed to maintain alignment with organizational goals and best practices.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging team members to contribute ideas and actively participate in process optimization efforts.
Conceptual Development:
  • Oversee the creation of initial game concepts and high-level design documentation.
  • Oversee the collaboration with stakeholders to refine game ideas, ensuring they meet market needs and player expectations in the iGaming space.
  • Ensure game concepts align with business objectives and adhere to regulatory standards in the iGaming industry.
Workflow Management:
  • Establish and maintain a clear workflow from ideation to completion of game design work packages.
  • Ensure each game work package includes validated mathematics, comprehensive help files, detailed game specifications, and completed art assets.
  • Coordinate between departments to ensure all components are correctly integrated and prepared for handoff to the development team.
Mathematics & Game Mechanics:
  • Work closely with mathematicians to ensure all game mechanics and payouts are mathematically sound and compliant with iGaming regulations.
  • Validate mathematical models for gameplay balance and fairness.
  • Approve and oversee the integration of mathematics into game specifications and development assets.
Art & Asset Creation:
  • Oversee the collaboration between artists, game designers and the Head of Product to define the visual style and ensure art assets are consistent with the game’s vision.
  • Obtain final art asset approval from all stakeholders and ensure they are development-ready, meeting technical requirements for integration into the game engine.
Technical Writing & Documentation:
  • Manage the technical writer to ensure all game-related documentation (e.g., help files, technical specifications, and JIRA development tickets) is clear, concise, and accessible to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure that documentation is properly versioned and updated throughout the game development cycle.
  • Collaborate with the technical project managers to handle any post-release updates or fixes required by regulatory bodies or the market.
Delivery of Work Packages:
  • Compile and finalize work packages for development, ensuring all assets, specifications, and documentation are complete and ready for handoff.
  • Work with the development team to address any questions or changes required during the development process.
  • Ensure timely delivery of work packages to avoid delays in the production pipeline.
Collaboration with Development:
  • Act as the main point of contact between the game design team and development teams to resolve any design-related issues that arise during the development phase.
  • Provide ongoing support to the development team to ensure the design is executed accurately.
Key Deliverables:
  • Fully completed game design work packages, including:
  • Validated mathematical models and payout structures.
  • Comprehensive help files and player guides.
  • Detailed technical specifications.
  • Finished and development-ready art assets.
  • Regular progress updates to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Timely delivery of games to external testing, regulatory certification, and live deployment.
  • Consistent and clear documentation for game design and project management processes.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in game design, preferably within the iGaming industry.

  • Strong understanding of game mathematics, probability, and payout structures.
  • Understanding of iGaming compliance and regulatory standards.
