Breast Interventional Mammographer - Peterborough
- To produce a consistently high standard of mammography and client/patient care ensuring an efficient service is maintained at all times.
- Be a registered practitioner and authoriser under IR(ME)R being responsible for the justification and authorisation of medical exposures.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge, clinical reasoning and experience in the field of breast imaging, advising on and carrying out follow-up interventional diagnostics.
- Autonomously deciding suitable biopsy positions and understanding the various factors involved in that decision making.
- To work closely with clinicians, physicists, imaging assistants, clerical staff and others providing specialist knowledge and expertise in breast imaging within the Trust.
- Taking an active role in the decision making processes such as multidisciplinary meetings. Liaising with clinicians within the Trust and externally regarding the patients’ clinical management.
- Exhibit excellent communication skills to provide concise information to patients and colleagues.
- Act as a mentor/teacher to mammographers, students and other health care professionals giving advice and support ensuring the continual advancement of staff and service development. Share new practices with staff all groups. To participate in the implementation of new techniques and equipment.
- Regularly undertake/participate in both self and clinical audits and have the ability to present findings. Guide less experience members of staff through the audit process.
Main duties of the job
Clinical
Maintain high levels of accuracy in all aspects of mammographic imaging. To produce mammograms of optimum quality, maintaining a quality experience for the client while adhering to time constraints.
Educational- To attend and contribute to case discussion at regular multidisciplinary team meetings.
- To attend study days and update training courses required to maintain the Certificate in Mammography, undertake CPD and further training as may be considered necessary to fulfil the professional role.
- To provide supervision and support to junior and non-professional staff.
- To demonstrate and support the teaching of mammographic techniques
- To liaise with the Principal Radiographer/ Breast Screening Manager to determine methods of improving the acceptability of the service to the public.
- To know and understand the Regional Breast Screening Data System, and be able to interpret and enter client data
- Participate in Clinical Governance and Clinical Audit programmes as appropriate
- Maintain a good team working relationship, ensuring good communication at all times

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria- • BSc or DCR (R) in Radiography
- • Current HCPC registration
- • Cert. Of Competence in Mammography/Post Graduate Award in Mammography at Masters level (or working towards)
Experience
Essential criteria- Proven post graduate radiography experience of at least 2 years
- Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of mentoring and teaching
- Experience of research & audit
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria- Knowledge of Breast anatomy and diseases
- In depth knowledge and understanding of the National Screening programme
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Good computer skills
- Ability to perform high volume, quality mammography to NHSBSP standards
- Competent & professional approach
- Accurate & thorough with attention to detail
