We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable individual to join the team as Inpatient Booking Co-ordinator/Medical Secretary. This interesting role will include efficient management of two consultant waiting lists.
You will require excellent communication and organisational skills and be able to manage your own workload. You should also have sound experience of PAS (particularly BEA and out patients) and a robust knowledge of the current access targets.
Medical Secretary experience will also be required, and you will need to be able to demonstrate audio typing and medical terminology skills, as this post will also provide PA support to two consultants, a visiting consultant and speciality doctor and the associated clinic typing.
This is a full time vacancy, 37.5 hours per week.
Main duties of the job
Arrange patient admissions using hospital systems, including pre-operative assessment appointments, sending out relevant paperwork as necessary in line with the Patient Access Policy. Ensure that all patients with an elective ‘to come in’ date have confirmed their appointments within an appropriate timeframe in order to fully utilise available capacity.
Communicate and escalate any shortfalls in capacity to the CAL and ensure additional capacity is fully utilised and appropriately communicated to patients.
Key areas of responsibility:
Weekly monitoring of patients with ‘late’, ‘no’ or unconfirmed TCI.
Liaising with consultants and secretaries as to dates of treatment for patients
Same day cancellations – ensuring patients are re-booked within 28 days of cancellations or within RTT breach date (whichever is sooner).
Ensuring Pathway ID’s are attached to all inpatient episodes.
Ensuring comments are updated weekly on the RADAR system.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential criteria- Significant relevant experience
- 3 GCSE's (C or above)
- Experience of PAS, Bluespier, Galaxy, Radar
- AMSPAR or Med sec qualification
- Audio typing
- Previous NHS experience
Practical Intellectual Skills & Training
Essential criteria- Good written communication (supporting statement)
- Understanding of hospital systems
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Willingness to undertake training
- Knowledge of hospital activity
