Job overview
The Deputy Group Director of Nursing post is a senior nursing position within the organisation which requires the individual to possess excellent communication and organisational skills which will facilitate working within the Surgical Services Group.
The postholder will be responsible for the strategic clinical oversight of the inpatient services providing strategic leadership for the service. The postholder will work alongside the Group Director of Nursing to deliver the quality and safety agenda / Fundamentals of Care Programme engaging the clinical teams to ensure delivery of patient centered evidence based high quality and safe care.The postholder will deputise for the Group Director of Nursing as required.
Main duties of the job
As a key professional leader, the Deputy Group Director of Nursing will provide operational direction to all nurses within the directorates, be responsible for providing high quality patient focused care and ensuring robust risk management and governance arrangements are in place.Their portfolio will include operational nursing inpatient services in the surgical services group including oversight of Quality and Safety, Patient Flow and Medicines Management for the Group in addition to deputising for the Group Director of Nursing.
The post holder will be an integral part of the trust senior nursing team working with other Deputy Directors of Nursing, Directors of Nursing, Deputy Chief Nurses and Chief Nursing Officer.

Experience
Essential criteria- Recent experience in a senior nursing role in an acute environment (Matron or equivalent)
- Experience of leading clinical teams and professional agendas
- Recent direct project management experience.
- Experience of budgetary/financial management
- Proven track record in improving patient experience and gaining patient/public views
- Recent experience of direct involvement in delivering the Quality Agenda
- Experience of workforce planning across a number of ward/department areas/directorate
- Evidence of tangible practice/service development across a number of ward or departments/directorates
- Patient/User involvement or advocacy role
Qualifications
Essential criteria- First level registration with the NMC
- Masters degree or equivalent level of academic achievement in health related subject
- Completion of recent Leadership /Management or evidence of equivalent competence
- Evidence of professional updating in last twelve months
- Mentorship qualification or equivalent
Management/Leadership
Essential criteria- Proven performance and monitoring
- Proven workforce planning and development skills.
- Ability to apply evidence base in practice
- Proven practice and service development skills
- Demonstrable data collection, analysis and evaluation skills
- Be able to manage all aspects of work including: identifying training needs, carrying out appraisals, full management of sickness absence; conduct; performance and capability cases
