Job overview

Bart’s Sexual Health Services is looking for a Nurse Practitioner to join their ALL EAST team, providing community-based women's health services and integrated sexual health. The role will primarily be based at the Tower Hamlets Community Women’s Health Service at Mile End Hospital, but will involve working across other EAST services, including the Ambrose King Centre at the Royal London Hospital.

Key responsibilities include managing patient care autonomously, providing specialist clinical care, fitting and removing Long Acting Reversible Contraception, conducting termination of pregnancy counseling, and working in the Early Medical Termination Service.

The successful candidate will have higher-level clinical skills, management experience, and the ability to work independently in a busy clinical environment. An essential requirement is being pro-choice on abortion.

The role offers clinical supervision and opportunities to help develop junior team members. Independent prescribing will be expected.

Main duties of the job

The Nurse Practitioner in the community women’s health services and Integrated Sexual Health will use their specialist knowledge, skills and experience in providing sexual healthcare to undifferentiated clients attending integrated sexual health clinics (termination of pregnancy, menopause, female genital mutilation reversal, GUM, contraception and

associated outreach services).

They are responsible and accountable for the total episode of

care of the patient including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and referral as appropriate using Trust guidance. They will also specifically work within the Early Medical Termination Service to administer the medication for the termination and support the women physically

and emotionally through the procedure, according to the department’s guidelines. They will work in collaboration with the Multi-professional Team and within Trust governance framework.

The Nurse Practitioner in community women’s health services and Integrated Sexual Health will be a direct provider of higher level nursing practice to patients with sexual health needs. They will also function in a variety of non-provider roles including education and research.

In

conjunction with the Senior Nurse – SH, HIV, CWHS & Immunology, Lead Nurses, Practice Development Nurses and other team members, they will contribute to the development of the nursing profession, nursing practice and the speciality group.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse Adult (Level 1)
  • Educated to 1 st degree level or demonstrable equivalent clinical experience
  • Teaching Qualification
  • Family planning and sexual health courses or other relevant courses (eg BASHH STI foundation competency)
  • Independent Nurse prescribing course
Desirable criteria
  • Master’s degree

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of providing care and treatment to patients with sexual health needs at an advanced level
  • Autonomous management of clients requiring sexual health services, provided in one or more of the following – termination of pregnancy, cervical screening, menopause, sexual health, gynaecology services
  • General post registration experience and current integrated sexual health experience required
  • Evidence of working with staff from different professional disciplines
  • Evidence of utilising Evidence-based Practice
  • Evidence of Clinical Supervision
  • Evidence of practice development
  • Evidence of local resolution of complaints
  • Experience of providing care and treatment to women undergoing termination of pregnancy
