Main duties of the job
In this high-impact role, you will:
Develop Strategic Vision: Collaborate with senior leadership to shape the strategic direction of Learning Disability nursing services, aligning them with national and local healthcare priorities and ensuring a patient-centered approach.
Drive Service Improvement: Lead the development and implementation of innovative strategies to enhance holistic care delivery and patient outcomes, ensuring a seamless, integrated approach that meets individual needs.
Champion Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement, promoting best practices and innovation across all nursing departments.
Empower Leadership: Empower and support nursing staff, providing them with the resources and knowledge they need to achieve their goals and enhance their professional development.
Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilise data analysis to identify areas for improvement in service delivery, patient experience, and staff satisfaction, developing evidence-based solutions that elevate our nursing contributions.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the hospital, including executives, department heads, medical staff, and external partners, ensuring effective collaboration and a unified approach to care.

Person specification
Education
Essential criteria- Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) or RNMH with significant experience in Learning disability
- Professional knowledge acquired through a Master’s degree or supplemented by specialist training or equivalent experience to master level.
- Recognised clinical teaching qualification or equivalent clinical mentoring and teaching experience.
- Non Medical Prescriber NMP
- Post qualification continuing professional development
- Qualification in management and / or leadership or willingness to work towards.
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to foster good inter- team/inter-agency working relationships
- Able to demonstrate initiative and be proactive Personal qualities: Approachable, Reliable, Thorough, Determined, Energetic, Flexible, Engaging
- Committed to personal and team development
- Use initiative to make critical judgements and decisions independently under pressure
- Offer support to staff whilst maintaining boundaries, which enable difficult decisions to be made in an impartial and fair manner in accordance with Trust policies and procedures
- Good understanding of relevant legislation and guidance (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, CPA, Safe Staffing) and its application in practice.
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Experience of managing feedback, investigation of complaints or similar
Experience
Essential criteria- Extensive experience working with people learning disabilities with complex mental health in a community environment.
- Extensive experience working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers In depth experience in a clinical nurse leadership role
- Evidence of successful working within multi-disciplinary teams
- Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality care and service provision
- Evidence of leadership ability, able to influence, involve and develop individuals and teams
- Significant experience resolving complex and challenging situations in collaboration with other disciplines and agencies
- Direct line management experience of clinical staff
- Ability to use performance management information and demonstrate understanding of performance information
- Experience of continuous quality improvement and implementing change
- Excellent IT skills. Ability to develop and manage databases and develop reports
- Ability to motivate and challenge staff of all disciplines
- Experience of operational management of staff
- Experience in research and service evaluation work
- Experience of managing feedback, investigation of complaints or similar
- Experience of working alongside higher education providers
