Senior Pharmacist - Clinical Services

We have a rare opportunity for 9-month maternity leave cover to lead and oversee clinical pharmacy input to Gastroenterology.
We are seeking an experienced, motivated and dynamic clinical pharmacist with excellent communication and leadership skills to work with the Directorates and Clinical Pharmacy teams within RWT.
Our department prides itself in cross-sector working breaking down barriers, highlighted by a strong admission avoidance agenda.
The pharmacy department has strong education links with universities and we actively encourage staff development. Many of our pharmacists are working on their Advanced Pharmacist Portfolios or pursuing postgraduate studies.
The successful candidate will have experience of working within clinical services and have a proven record of delivering effective change.

Main duties of the job
To provide a clinical pharmacy ward service and undertake directorate level working for Gastroenterology.
Provide professional pharmaceutical services, including reviewing prescriptions, dispensing aseptic preparation, and clinical pharmacy services in all areas of the department.
Supervise/provide professional support to junior pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, students and support staff.
Managed by principal pharmacist for the area.
To act as an independent prescriber once registered with the GPhC in line with local policy and entered in the trust NMP register.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post will provide the following services to the relevant Directorate (not exhaustive):
To provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service to wards and departments within the relevant directorate.
To provide clinical and directorate support to the relevant directorate.
Support safe prescribing and medication governance.
Participate in service improvement projects.
To continuously monitor the drug expenditure against budgets for the relevant directorate.
Review and develop treatment guidelines and PGDs.
Participate in the training of pharmacists, doctors, nurses and undergraduate students.
Applicants must be registered with the GPhC, have a broad range of hospital pharmacy experience and have or be working towards a postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent. An independent prescribing qualification is desirable.

Qualification
Essential criteria- Masters Degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent) and registration with GPhC
- Completed Year 1 of postgraduate Clinical Diploma or equivalent qualification
- Ability to demonstrate clinical experience and competence in a broad range of medical and surgical specialties relevant to post
- Experience of working within gastroenterology
- Independent prescribing qualification
- Completed postgraduate Clinical Diploma or equivalent qualification
- Experience in supervising, training and assessing staff

Essential criteria- Ability to work autonomously and on own initiative and also to co-operate within a team to achieve desired outcomes
- Ability to manage own time effectively and prioritise appropriately
- Ability to adapt behaviour to changing circumstances and work under pressure
- Experience of implementing or delivering the objectives of cost/service improvement programmes
- Experience of undertaking audits and participating in clinical research
- Ability to demonstrate undertaking work at a regional or national level within a relevant specialty. This can include having papers publishing
