We currently have a great opportunity within our Transport team for a Transport Driver.
The role is part time,- 34 hours Mon- Thurs – 14.30 to 22.30 & Fri – 11.00am to 15.00.
- Working on Car Park shuttle bus.

To support the delivery of patient care by the transportation of goods, linen, pharmacy supplies, medical specimens, and Trust staff around the Trust and deliver/pick up from other contracted service users. To maintain vehicles in a clean & tidy state and promote good customer service to users.To complete legal & service required checks.

Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities
To support the delivery of patient care by the transportation of goods, linen, pharmacy supplies, medical specimens, and Trust staff around the Trust and deliver/pick up from other contracted service users. To maintain vehicles in a clean & tidy state and promote good customer service to users.To complete legal & service required checks.
Planning and Organisational Duties- Understand transport rules & regulations in relation the vehicle being driven.
- Work to standard operational procedures, and allocated duties. Supervisor available.
- Ensure daily vehicle checks are carried out.
- Will be required to move, handle and distribute a variety of goods, which may be light, heavy or fragile, includes transportation of staff.
- Will be expected to drive classes of vehicles ranging from small vans, mini-buses and vehicles up to 7.5tonnes tail lift.
- Ensure compliance with route information and collection/delivery points.
- Will be responsible for the regular cleaning (inside & out) of vehicles, vehicle inspection checks, and for reporting faults to the Transport Supervisor.
- Will respect the confidentiality of all goods carried. Understand the implications of information Governance.
- Co-ordinate and maintain all records as directed.
- Promote within and behalf of Transport Services, excellent public relations with patients, visitors and staff as well as members of the public.
- Could be required to process and sort mail.
- Must fully comply with all Trust Departmental policies and procedures at all times and attend all training sessions as and when required.
- Communication with clients about changes or disruption to planned deliveries.
- Communicates with public or clients when delivering, may have to park in areas for delivery/collection which cause disruption.
- Maintain calm behaviour when faced with unhappy staff if staff services are unavoidably delayed.
- Always ensure the security of the vehicle.
- Record fuel input activity and ensure fuel saving driving techniques are used.
- Responsible for vehicle and contents when driving and on the route.
- Demonstrate own duties to new starters
- Attend courses as directed, ensure compliance with mandatory training
- Compliance with Trust and Local procedures
- Complete timesheet or work record
- Responsible for ensuring own safety at work.
- Must adhere to the Highway Code and Trust road signs at all times on Trust business.
- Manage spillages if they occur.
- Report any defects to Supervisors
- Significant manual handling required, moving linen bags, heavy boxes and fragile items.
- Could be moving goods in unpleasant weather conditions.
Compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 – the post holder is required to fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk in all their actions. This entails the risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of all incidents, near misses and hazards, and a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.
Responsibility for Teaching- Demonstrate own duties to new starters
- Could be required to work unsocial hours.
- Provide cover for other journeys and tasks.
- Could be required to work flexible hours.
- To undertake any other reasonable requests within the Trust transport department.
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria- Basic numeracy & literacy qualifications
- Valid driving licence for relevant classes of vehicle, eg D1 minibus licence, heavy good vehicle etc.
- Clean Driving Licence
- Fuel saving training
Experience
Essential criteria- Experience of working within similar environment
- Considerable experience employed as a driver
- Understanding of basic vehicle checks
- Knowledge of vehicle activity records
Skills
Essential criteria- Skills relating to manual handling use of sack trucks etc.
- Relevant skills for driving different class of vehicles
- Skills relating to minor maintenance of vehicles
- Advanced driving skills
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Knowledge and operational experience of a variety of vehicles.
- Proven knowledge of the local area
- Knowledge of Trust sites and associated departments
Additional
Essential criteria- Flexibility to provide cover for colleagues
- Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation.
