The role
St Nicholas’ School seeks to appoint an enthusiastic and talented Academic Deputy Head teacher. You will be joining a supportive and successful senior leadership team, within one of the top schools nationally.
The successful candidate will be responsible for setting the strategic academic direction for the school, in conjunction with the Head and SMT, and to ensure excellent, innovative standards of teaching and learning are achieved across all academic departments, particularly in the senior school.The role requires the ability to grasp the bigger picture and the tiniest detail at the same time, and to command the respect of staff, pupils, parents and governors.
You will also be required to carry out the general professional duties of a teacher (with a reduced timetable). The ability to teach physics and maths would be a distinct advantage.
The post holder will also be responsible for:
- Timetabling across the whole school (Nursery, Infants, Juniors and Seniors).
- Deputising for the Headmistress in her absence.
- Coordination of all reports and parents’ evenings.
- Consistent and rigorous tracking of pupil performance data.
- Line managing all heads of departments and completing their appraisals bi-annually.
- Working closely with the DLS/Pastoral leads/Head of Infant and Juniors.
- Monitoring and developing the Teaching and Learning provision across the whole school.
- Year 9 options process.
- Delivering INSET, CPD and training.
- All cover arrangements.
- Working with the Exams Officer to coordinate all internal and external examinations.
- SCITT Co-ordinator for i2i Teaching Partnership.
- Working with the Headmistress, Bursar, Registrar and Marketing Manager, developing the strategic vision of the school.
- Assisting in the preparation for inspections and audits on matters relating to our academic provision (ISI Inspections).
- Leading the academic scholars’ programme, to ensure our most able pupils continue to be appropriately challenged both inside and outside of lessons.
- Advising the Headmistress on appropriate staffing levels required to deliver the curriculum.
- Supporting continued growth in enrolment.
- Providing regular communication with stakeholders, as appropriate, on matters relating to teaching, learning and curriculum.
- Providing articles for the website, newsletters and external publications that help to promote and market the school and its provision.
