Group Events Manager (Mat Cover) - London

Contract: 9-month Fixed-Term Contract with the potential to extend (maternity cover)Start: Apr/May 2025
Salary: £45,000+ (Depending on Experience)
Haymarket is a successful international specialist media company with over 60 market-leading brands. The Awards & Forums team is responsible for delivering over 50 annual B2B events ranging from awards ceremonies, forums and networking events.
We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Group Events Manager to work across our Awards & Forums portfolio. This mid-level managerial role involves overseeing and guiding a team of event professionals to successfully deliver 25-30 high-profile events.As a key player in the execution of these events, you will mentor, coach, and drive a culture of excellence across both project management and team development.
The role will oversee 2-3 direct line reports consisting of senior event managers and their line reports along with event managers and event executives. The successful candidate is also personally responsible for one project of their own. The role will report directly to the Portfolio Director and work closely with both the Director of Events and Head of Awards & Forums.
Responsibilities:
- Line Management: conduct weekly 1-1 meetings with line reports along with monthly event/brand meetings to ensure projects are being launched and completed in a timely fashion.
- Budget Oversight: manage the P&L across their teams portfolio, striving to meet financial targets and completing month end forecasting
- Team Strategy: work closely with events leadership team to ensure best practice, initiate new ideas, flag any issues, challenges or concerns
- Team Development: mentor and support junior team members, developing personal development plans and conducting team appraisals
- Achieving Revenue Targets: oversee call for entries and ticket sales ensuring both financial and volume targets are met
- Event Attendance: attend yours and your teams events to ensure they are delivered to the standard expected at Haymarket
- Stakeholder Management: maintain relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external, suppliers, judges and speakers
- Sustainability: seek to drive continual improvement in live event sustainability performance and ensure line reports are adhering to SEMS processes.
Skills / Experience / Knowledge / Minimum Criteria:
Essential:
- Extensive experience managing large-scale awards and/or commercial B2B events
- Proven track record leading and overseeing a team of event professionals
- Demonstrated ability to drive revenue growth to deliver successful events
- Strong written and spoken English, with a good eye for detail in reviewing and editing written documents
- Knowledge of events marketing strategies and best practice.
- Comprehensive understanding of the events industry, with established relationships with key suppliers
- Hands-on experience in venue management and a solid understanding of health and safety procedures
- Experience in budget management and P&L oversight, with a keen awareness of the financial impact on events
Desirable:
- A degree in Hospitality/Event Management or other relevant discipline
- Good understanding of Evessio (awards management software) or similar
- Sound negotiating and influencing skills
