Job overview
The Forensic services Security Department is a nursing team dedicated to the delivery of therapeutic security and reception front house customer care services to patients, visitors, staff and all other stakeholders. Therapeutic security is made up of physical, procedural and relational security components.To enable patients to receive the highest standard of care as much as possible, a culture of safety, security and therapeutic risk taking must be integral to all aspects of service delivery.
Main duties of the job
The Post Holder should understand and acknowledge the rights of those who use Mental Health Services in accordance with the Policies and Strategies of East London Foundation Trust, the Mental Health Act Code Of Practice(1983) and the Mental Health .The post holder would be responsible to ensure that the John Howard Centre/Wolfson House Reception is effectively managed in order to provide an efficient, effective and secure front of house service through the 24 hour.The post holder will ensure management of all security equipment, the audit process and delivering of training to staff at all levels.
The post holder would be required to comply with the security procedures of the service, being aware of security policies in relation to the management of the service and maintaining vigilance in relation to potential breaches of security.
Post holder will be required to fulfil liaison responsibilities supporting clinical teams, contractors, visitors , patients, junior reception staff colleagues and all other stakeholders.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The security supervisor will be required to participate as a member of the security nursing team in delivery, monitoring and evaluating individual care/treatment plans from a risk perspective and collaborate with other disciplines as required, to lead by example, acting as a positive role model staff and patients and ensuring Trust wide and local Policy and procedure is followed and upheld, to undertake reactive and proactive searches of patients and their property as required, demonstrating an understanding of the responsibilities in relation to patient’s property and valuables, respecting cultural values as well as to always act in a manner as to promote and safeguard the interests and well-being of patients, actively promoting a responsible caring attitude at all times, treating all patients with dignity and respect.The post holder will be required to support security nursing assistant staff in ensuring that mandatory checks are completed, and that customer care is at its best when dealing with all stakeholders at the front desk and elsewhere when fulfilling requirements of the role.

Education
Essential criteria- Educated to GCSE/NVQ/Certificate Level II/III
- Literate and Numerate
- A Level/ Degree level education
Experience
Essential criteria- Experience in psychiatric setting
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria- Effective communication and positive interpersonal skills
- Recognise own abilities and limitations
- Ability to deliver training to staff at all levels
- Ability to use own initiative when required
- Ability to recognise inappropriate behaviour and set/maintain boundaries with the agreement of the clinical team.

- Sound written / report communication
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria- Ability to work in an autonomous way
- Able to assist assist in security induction/ training and in other relevant training areas e.g. escort, handcuff, Ligature, Search
- Able to give instructions to staff at all grades/disciplines
- Understanding of the audit process and ability to undertake audits
- Knowledge of the workings of current technology and its use/capabilities
- Prepare written reports on advice of registered nurse, relating to care of patients or specific occurrences
