Assistant Accountant - Reading
What's the role about?:
Assistant Accountant
Full Time | PermanentSalary: £35,000 per annum + annual company bonus
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week
Location: Winnersh RG41 (Hybrid 2-3days office)
We are seeking a proactive Assistant Accountant to join our Advantage Smollan finance team. You will support the seamless delivery of accurate month-end processes for multiple UK entities. This role focuses on maintaining robust financial controls and contributing to process improvements.
While this role has no direct reports, occasional out-of-hours work may be required during period-end processes.
Key Responsibilities- Complete month-end financial close processes on time and with accuracy.
- Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations.
- Prepare VAT reports and returns.
- Handle back-office treasury activities, including FX rate postings, loan interests, and intercompany agreements.
- Post journals for accruals, prepayments, and other provisions.
- Assist with cost reallocations, fixed assets, and project accounting.
- Document, standardise, and improve processes.
- Support external audits and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Collaborate with team members to share knowledge and ensure efficiency.
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications & Experience:
- AAT qualified or finalist.
- Proven experience in commercial finance.
Skills:
- Strong Excel skills (vlookups, pivot tables).
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
Technical Knowledge:
- Familiarity with systems such as SAP BPC, Dynamics 365 Finance, Chrome River, Medius Flow, Blackline, and Microsoft Office (desirable).
