About the role We are looking for two enthusiastic Clinical Research Fellows in Neonatal Medicine to work on an exciting NIHR funded projects in the field of neonatal medicine. You will be supervised by Professor Sudhin Thayyil, based in the Centre for Perinatal Neuroscience, working with world leading experts in one of the largest clinical research programs on birth related brain injury (neonatal encephalopathy) in the world.
What you would be doing Post 1 is a 3-year doctoral post, where you would lead a clinical trial of whole-body hypothermia for mild encephalopathy (COMET). You will work directly with the trial team and be responsible for all aspects of the trial under the chief investigator.
You will lead site initiations and conduct assessment outcomes. Post 2 is a 1-year pre-doctoral post, where you will work in one or more of the ongoing research programs at the Centre for Perinatal Neuroscience. You will have the opportunity to develop data for a doctoral fellowship application.
What we are looking for We are looking for passionate and committed early career paediatricians who wish to explore a combined clinical and research career as a clinician scientist and to make a big difference to babies with birth related brain injury.

You should have a degree in medicine (MBBS) and prior experience of working in paediatrics and neonatal medicine. Previous research and experience in various neonatal imaging techniques is desirable, but not essential. You will receive training in various aspects of clinical trials and neonatal brain research including development of publications and grants and access to the various training programs organised by the Imperial Clinical Academic Training Office and NIHR Global Health Training programs.

You will have access to a generous research training and travel bursary, and will be eligible to apply for a self-funded PhD fee with discounted fees, if required. Further information Both posts are available to start immediately, however we are open to delaying this until September 2025 at the latest, based on approvals to exit your training programme. In both posts, you have the option to take up to four clinical shifts per month in the neonatal intensive care unit at Queen Charlottes and Chelsea Hospital, which will be renumerated through the NHS.
