We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly motivated band 6 to join the Occupational Therapy team at the Priscilla Bacon Centre for Specialist Palliative Care, located in Colney.

The occupational therapy service provides clinical support to patients with complex specialist palliative care needs, on the in-patient unit, the Rowan Day Centre and to out-patients.
Patients are referred into the service for symptom management, palliative rehabilitation and for end of life care.
The successful applicant will be expected to work autonomously, managing their caseload and will be responsible for evaluating their treatments and maintaining accurate documentation
Applicants should have relevant post graduate experience, ideally within in a palliative care setting.
The post holder will work in an integrated way with a wide multi-disciplinary team providing assessed interventions and managing complex discharges to home or other care settings.
The role will include managing junior staff and involvement in supervision processes.

The post holder will be a subject matter expert and a resource and learning to the wider MDT.

  • assessment to support patients safe discharge from the in-patient unit, including rapid discharge home to die
  • therapeutic led sessions in the Rowan Day Centre empowering patients to self manage their symptoms
  • individual interventions to out patients
  • support and coaching for families and carers to manage complex patients in the community
  • to be a subject matter expert and to share this expertise with colleagues
  • prescribe standard wheelchairs and liaise with other services for complex seating assessments
  • to utilize advanced communication skills
  • to provide education and advice to influence clinical practice
  • to provide supervision to junior colleagues
  • to participate in research and audit
  • to provide placement education for students
