Practice & Staff Development Work directly alongside staff for 75% of the role to raise, monitor and evaluate standards of clinical practice using evidence-based frameworks. Establish and develop effective relationships with the theatre team to plan and facilitate changes and innovation in practice.
Use coaching/mentoring-style techniques to support practitioners in clinical areas and facilitate the implementation of personal development plans, agreed programmes of change and project work within the service, demonstrating a commitment to disseminating information and sharing experiences.

Act as a role model and clinical expert to colleagues by guiding practice, assessing competence, and supporting the implementation of any policies to actively enhance learning in the knowledge and provision of perioperative care. In collaboration with senior clinical staff, develop and maintain an effective and creative learning environment for all individuals seeking knowledge and experience in perioperative practice and support the theatre sisters/team leaders, and matron in all matters relating to staff development.

Demonstrate an advanced level of clinical competence and inform practice development with a sound and current knowledge of professional practice and health care issues, promoting evidence-based practice. Contribute to a climate where staff members appropriately question and challenge practice, and where decision-making can be openly debated and discussed and assist departmental leaders in implementing change effectively.

Provide sensitive feedback focused on the progress of learners and foster a climate in which best practice can be safely debated and reflected upon Working with departmental leaders, coordinate and facilitate a plan to deliver learning and development within the service to meet identified individual, team, service and directorate needs and in partnership with departmental leaders pre-empt and identify constraints to the learning process and formulate a realistic approach to overcome obstacles.

Support department leaders to ensure a robust mentorship system is in place to provide a continuous means of clinical support and supervision. In conjunction with the departmental leader evaluate the efficacy of individuals clinical skills and assist individuals in the development of their individual professional portfolios.
Proactively establish, develop, and maintain inter-professional relationships and attend relevant meetings. In collaboration with Divisional and Trust Professional Developmental Nurses develop and promote a strategy for clinical practice within the SUWON Division.
Be responsible for ensuring that learning and development programs provided are designed to be consistent with organizational service development and workforce development strategy. Provide data to the senior practice development and education team to assist with the collation of the yearly training needs analysis.
Lead and drive progress in these areas within the parameters of established national and local priorities, policies, and procedures. Personal Development Maintain own professional development by participation in regular 1-1s with Band 7 Practice Development Nurse &/or Band 8 Educational Lead and an annual appraisal producing and achieving agreed Personal Development Plans.
Employ a variety of teaching / training methods to deliver learning and development plan e.g., coaching; practice assessment; tutorials; reflective practice; case presentation; group working; action learning set etc. Demonstrate the ability to concentrate, prioritise and multitask for prolonged periods of time whilst applying attention to detail and consistency of approach even in adverse conditions.
Demonstrate skill at interpreting clinical information, anticipating potential problems, responding to changes promptly and effectively. Act as a positive role model through teaching, mentorship, and coaching and through the facilitation of these skills.
Promote a life-long learning culture within the department providing high-level professional leadership for the delivery of workforce development and learning within the department. Positively promote theatres both within the Trust and Nationally/Internationally through participation at meetings, submission of articles/papers, and presenting at conferences.
Demonstrate a proactive, creative, and problem-solving approach to all aspects of the role. Demonstrate use of highly developed and advanced communication skills to support patients and families in stressful situations, to manage conflict promptly and effectively and to support and promote effective working relationships within the multidisciplinary team.
Planning and Organisational Skills Promote the involvement and education of patients, carers, and the nursing/multi-disciplinary colleagues in care decisions. Maintain effective channels of communication with the multi-disciplinary teams and be proactive in any action plans required to facilitate this.
Actively participate in the induction and orientation programme to theatre and with the future planning and delivery of the Perioperative PG Certificate. In conjunction with senior team ensure that areas identified for improvement as the result of complaints, adverse events or near misses, are dealt with and monitored to maintain improvements.
Support and facilitate Band 6 and 5 practitioners to lead relevant clinical projects to enhance patient care. Equality and Diversity Adhere to OUH Trust Policies applicable to equality and diversity. Act in a manner that respects equality and diversity and strives to encourage this behaviour in others.
Ensure that patients, visitors, theatre practitioners and multi-disciplinary team members are treated with dignity and respect being mindful of their language, cultural and spiritual needs. Actively maintain and further the development of the delivery of care ensuring the focus is on the individuality of the patient.
Quality Practice at all times within the NMC / HCPC Code of Professional Conduct, Local and OUH guidelines; policies and procedures. Assist the Sisters, Deputy Matrons/Matron and Directorate Management Team in the timely response to complaints identifying and supporting actions to prevent the situation reoccurring.
Act as an expert clinical role model and resource to staff to optimise quality of care delivery through facilitation of evidence based/best practice care. Service Improvement Contribute to the development of effective implementation of Local and OUH policies within the department.
Support the theatres leadership team, in the development and evaluation of relevant protocols, guidelines and policies based on current evidence/research and facilitate/support other staff to do the same. Contribute to the development of clinical practice within the OUH when specialist knowledge is required.
Develop links with Clinical Governance team; Universities and other academic institutions and professional and organisational bodies to ensure a comprehensive approach to training and development. Ensure that the overall learning and development plan demonstrates a clear audit trail.
