What You’ll Do
  • Perform basic service tasks and learn component removal/reconditioning.
  • Assist qualified Technicians and report progress weekly.
  • Maintain inventory, tools, and equipment.
  • Service, maintain, and repair Ground Support Equipment (GSE).
As an Apprentice Technician, you’ll receive:

Over the course of the Apprentice, we will prepare apprentices to achieve an IMI Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance Standard. The role of an HGV Technician is to carry out fault diagnosis, service and repairs to HGV’s. During the course and amongst other duties you will learn how to carry out:
  • Servicing – carrying out inspections and services to vehicles
  • Maintenance – general and preventative maintenance to ensure possible faults are resolved
  • Repairing – repairing/replacing parts according to vehicle specifications
  • Diagnostics – diagnosing faults in the onboard systems.

With the increase in technology involved with vehicles today, you will also receive extensive training in how to use diagnostic equipment to solve faults in the Engine Control Unit (ECU)

Your training won’t be restricted to just the mechanical side but will include the pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical systems and ‘all electric’ vehicles as well as hybrids.

The types of vehicles you’ll be working on will range from tractor units and rigid trucks to specialist vehicles and trailers.Training to be Provided

Training is delivered in the workplace and on block release to Remit’s Automotive Academy in Derby. There are a total of 15 x 1 week blocks over the 3 year programme. The costs of hotel accommodation, food and travel are met by the employer and there will be no cost to you.

You will also receive 1-2-1 support from your Development Coach to help you achieve:
  • IMI Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Level 3
  • Functional Skills Level 2 in English & Maths (if required)
