Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within East Suffolk and North Essex NHS foundation trust (ESNEFT). The Neonatal Unit is looking for caring, enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals to join our team of nursery nurses to work within the neonatal unit and the new neonatal transitional care unit, being set up on the postnatal ward.

The Neonatal Unit provides care for premature babies and/or sick newborn babies that require admission. Neonatal Transitional Care (NTC) provides care for a wide range of newborn babies who are medically stable and predominantly well but require additional observation, treatment and support; more than that which is usually provided within the usual postnatal care pathway.

The individual will be rotating between both the neonatal unit and the neonatal transitional care unit to provide family centred care for special care infants under the supervision of registered nurses, neonatal unit nurse in charge and the postnatal ward midwives.

The individual will be required to work a variety of shifts, including days, nights and weekends to ensure that a 24/7 service is provided to our patients. You will be fully supported in your professional development, being provided with supernumerary time with other members of staff to promote learning and competence.

This is part time-23 hours per week, fixed term/secondment until 2nd December 2025.

Main duties of the job

Your principle duties will be;
  • Under the direction of a registered nurse/ midwife carry out assigned baby care, reporting any changes in baby’s condition / behaviour to the nurse in charge
  • Manage time and workload effectively to promote smooth running of the service
  • Under the direction of a registered nurse/ midwife, undertake specified clinical activities in accordance with level of competency
  • Participate in shift to shift care of babies within Transitional Care following agreed guidelines
  • When requested, assist in baby clinic held in children’s outpatient department
  • As directed by a registered nurse, assist in the preparation of babies undergoing diagnostic procedures (within remit of responsibility) and where applicable accompany baby / family to the relevant department
  • Maintain appropriate clinical records accurately, communicating any concerns to the nurse in charge immediately.
  • To be fully aware of and comply with Trust policies and procedures, maintaining confidentially at all times
  • Assist in the orientation of parents /visitors to the unit, and provide a supportive role to parents and families of babies in hospital maintaining good communication at all time
  • Ensure the supervision and safe custody of patients /parents property.
  • Assist in the maintenance of ward / department cleanliness

Experience

  • • Child Protection training / awareness
Desirable criteria
  • • Hospital based experience

Qualifications

  • NNEB or NVQ3 in childcare
Desirable criteria
  • • Safeguarding Children Level 3
