The Opportunity

As our Engineering Maintenance Trainer, you’ll have the exciting opportunity to shape the future of engineering by passing on your expertise to the next generation of skilled professionals. In this dynamic, hands-on role, you’ll lead our apprentices through practical training that directly impacts their careers within the engineering sector.

You’ll deliver a balanced mix of practical and classroom-based learning, covering key areas such as electrical systems, mechanical systems, fault diagnosis, planned maintenance, and health & safety. Tailoring your training to meet employer requirements, you’ll ensure apprentices are well-equipped to excel in the workplace.

Based in our STEM Centre, you’ll guide apprentices in using state-of-the-art tools and equipment while tackling real-world engineering challenges. Your lessons will bring complex engineering principles and diagnostics to life, presenting them in an engaging and accessible way.

You’ll also teach the systems for safe maintenance and operations, ensuring that apprentices meet industry standards and technical specifications.

As a mentor, you’ll track apprentices' progress, provide constructive feedback, and support them in overcoming challenges. Collaboration with your team will be key, as you’ll share best practices, develop engaging course materials, and uphold the highest teaching standards.

You’ll also have the chance to deliver training both in the STEM Centre and during workplace visits, giving apprentices the opportunity to apply their learning in real-world environments. With functional skills taught by a separate team, you can focus on delivering core engineering content, where your expertise truly shines.

If you’re new to teaching, we’ll provide full support to help you gain the necessary qualifications. This is your chance to make a lasting impact on the future of engineering, inspire the next generation of professionals, and play a key role in an industry that’s shaping the world.

About You

We’re looking for a driven professional with a solid background in Engineering Maintenance – particularly in electrical systems, fault diagnosis, and planned maintenance. If you’re eager to pass on your skills and expertise to eager apprentices, this role is for you!

Teaching experience isn’t essential, but you’ll need to be a great communicator who can engage learners at all levels. Your ability to mentor and guide apprentices through their journey will be key to their success. We’re looking for someone who is proactive, adaptable, and ready to tailor your teaching to meet the unique needs of each employer.

A solid understanding of industry standards, technical specifications, and health & safety regulations is a must. If you have experience working with apprenticeships or using e-portfolio systems, that’s a bonus, but we’ll support you in developing these skills as you go.

We welcome applicants with industry experience, even if you’re new to teaching. With our comprehensive training plan and ongoing support, we’ll set you up for success in this rewarding role.

Required:
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in an occupational area
  • Assessor Awards (or willingness to work towards)
  • Teaching qualification (must be willing to work towards Level 5 PGCE if not already held)
  • Previous relevant work experience within industry
Preferred:
  • Internal verification award
  • Experience of undertaking formal employee assessment in the workplace
