Our client is looking for a group of Cleaning Team Leaders to assist in there summer project on an interim ongoing basis. They are situated in London and are one of the world’s top 100 universities in the world.

Your new role

The Operations Department is part of the Estates & Facilities Directorate and is responsible for providing a number of customer focused services, to provide a clean and well maintained working environment that supports teaching, learning and revenue generating activities at the university

The post holder will be required, as directed by the Cleaning/Facilities Supervisor, to lead and supervise a team of Operations staff who deliver the following services; cleaning, portering and waste disposal for the college buildings and student residences.

The post holder is to ensure that all work activities are completed to a high standard in accordance by supervising staff to meet with the appropriate service level agreements and in compliance with College processes and procedures and the Health and Safety at Work Act.

The post holder will assist the Cleaning/Facilities Supervisor in the planning, organising, training and monitoring of these services/staff and the role will include liaising with internal customers and other departments and escalating issues to the Facilities Coordinator as required.

What you'll need to succeed

To provide a high level of customer service to students, staff and visitors in regard to delivering cleaning, portering and waste disposal.

To supervise a team of cleaning staff and porters, ensuring they are trained and competent to carry out their work duties in accordance with agreed procedures, ensuring that standards are maintained.

To plan and organise the daily duties of the service teams, producing and monitoring rota’s ensuring a fair and effective distribution of work and to make adjustments, as and when required, in line with operational needs.

To ensure the reporting and recording of staff absence in accordance with University Absence Management policies, carrying out return to work meetings as required.

To monitor the performance of staff, and contribute to annual appraisals, to take the necessary action to manage routine performance and staff welfare issues under the guidance of the Cleaning/Facilities Supervisor.

To ensure all staff are adequately trained to carry out cleaning and waste removal tasks to an acceptable level.

To ensure all staff and contractors working in cleaning, portering and waste disposal comply with agreed health and safety policies, procedures and COSHH regulations to ensure that all activities are undertaken in a safe manner, escalating any non-compliance issues appropriately.

To provide on the job staff training and guidance on the safe use of equipment and chemicals relevant to the job to help to enable a strong culture of safe and effective working practices.

To ensure effective, timely communication to, and from Cleaning Operatives and Supervisors/Managers to assist in the smooth operational running of services and to help team members understand their roles and priorities.

To monitor and maintain assets and consumable stock levels, to report low stock levels and any inconsistencies to the Cleaning/Facilities Supervisor. This includes overseeing the safe and secure storage of assets and consumables as applicable.

To manage the allocation of keys effectively and efficiently ensuring their safe keeping.

To report any faults or issues to the EAF Helpdesk.

To report and respond to any emergency (e.g. fire, flood, break-in, vandalism or accident) as directed by the Cleaning/Facilities Supervisor and to take action as directed.

To carry out any reasonable task or activity commensurate to the level role as requested by the Cleaning/Facilities Supervisor or Manager. This could include the carrying out of Cleaning Operative tasks to meet service needs.

Team Leaders will be expected to work five days out of seven. During busy academic events and peak residential activities you will be required to demonstrate flexibility to work to revised schedules, including the requirement to work on a rotational basis during Bank Holidays and college closure days as determined by operational requirements with a minimum of one weeks’ notice.
