Assistant Psychologist | Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust
We are looking for Assistant Psychologists to join our Mental Health Support Teams in Schools, in the BCP and North and East Dorset areas, for a fixed term period of 6 months to cover maternity leave. These are full time roles.
You will need an honours degree in Psychology, and have experience of working with people who are experiencing mental health difficulties.
The Mental Health Support Team in Schools (MHSTs) see children and young people in education settings, and offer mental health support to those who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health needs on a one to one basis (as well as parent led interventions).Interventions are focussed on low intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (LI CBT) or Counselling.
Alongside this, the teams provide advice, help and information to promote good emotional wellbeing to the whole school community in the form of (for example) groupwork (for parents/carers and young people), staff consultation and training, assemblies, class workshops and specific school audits.
This is a 37.5 hours 6 months fixed term Monday to Friday role to cover maternity.
This is a fixed term role and for those with current NHS service, the role will be offered on a secondment basis only. Please obtain permission to be released on a secondment before submitting an application.
Your work will be varied and will involve you working with a number children, young people, families and schools across the area.
You will co-facilitate small groups, working alongside the Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) and other team members to deliver targeted interventions. You will also support the development and delivery of all whole school interventions.
You will use your assessment skills when meeting children and young people and parents/carers in 1-1 sessions, choosing appropriate psychological interventions as supported and advised through your supervision by a qualified clinical psychologist.
