CONSULTANT IN PAEDIATRIC OPHTHALMOLOGY

This is a substantive consultant post and the 10 PAs are apportioned 8 PAs for direct clinical care and 1.5 PAs for supporting professional activity with an on-call commitment.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic Consultant Paediatric Ophthalmologist to join our established team of Consultants and work in the Oxford Eye Hospital.

The ability to also provide adult strabismus surgery would be desirable.

The paediatric ophthalmology service has a strong multidisciplinary interaction with general paediatric, neurosurgery, neurology and craniofacial departments of the neighbouring Oxford Children’s Hospital.

A clinical trials unit is active and research opportunities are available and encouraged. Participation on the consultant on-call rota is mandatory.

The paediatric ophthalmology team consists of a current locum consultant, one paediatric ophthalmology fellow and both optometrists and orthoptists with extended role. Deanery trainees also work in the service.

Applicants must be on the GMC specialist register or be within 6 months of doing so at the time of the interview. Applications from those wishing to work part-time or job share are welcomed.

Person specification

Qualifications

• Full GMC with licence to practice
• CCT, CESR or equivalent
• Medical degree FRCOphth or equivalent

• Higher degree relevant to ophthalmology
• Advanced training in paediatric ophthalmology & strabismus surgery
• Experience of leading an team including allied health professionals
• Experience of surgical adult strabismus management
