The Sexual Health Services Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Health Promotion, Outreach and System Training Lead will provide strategic and operational leadership across Nottingham City, South Nottinghamshire, Mid-Nottinghamshire and North Nottinghamshire.The role involves designing and leading initiatives to improve service delivery, promote Sexual Health awareness, ensuring the implementation of best practices in health promotion and outreach activities, as well as strategically managing system training.
This is a new role introduced following the contractual award of the single provider Integrated Sexual Health Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) and Sherwood Forest Hospitals (SFH) will work as a collaborative partnership from the 1st October 2024.
Main duties of the job- Provide strong, visible leadership on outreach and health promotion within the Sexual Health Services in partnership with the rest of the Specialty Management Team and the Sexual Health Operational Delivery Group.

- Contribute to the identification of performance objectives for health promotion and outreach, and operationally manage their delivery within the Service, in conjunction with the Operational Delivery Group
- Ensure the provision of optimum quality care in line with national healthcare standards.
- Support the cost-effective implementation of Research Strategies
- Promote a culture where governance and risk management are seen as everyone’s responsibility.
- Establish effective communication channels within the Service(s) and with the wider healthcare community.
- Manage the operation of the Trust’s HR policies such as Equality and Diversity, Discipline, Recruitment, Workforce Change for all managed staff within the Service.
- Take a strategic approach to managing and upskilling the non-sexual health workforce working particularly with high-risk or vulnerable groups through training, advice, and networking.
- Lead service initiatives and projects as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Leadership- Provide strong, visible leadership on outreach and health promotion within the Sexual Health Services in partnership with the rest of the Specialty Management Team and the Sexual Health Operational Delivery Group.
- Drive the delivery of ambitious targets to continually improve performance.
- Apply innovative business management approaches to maximise organisational efficiency.
- Lead the operational implementation of new outreach services, including any new policies.
- Ensure clear communication of expectations to all line reports and foster a collaborative team environment to achieve the service vision.
- Ensure the outreach and health promotion team possesses specific expertise and experience in engaging with and delivering of services to high-risk groups effectively.
- Ensure flexibility in health promotion and outreach to adapt to local needs across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, targeting resources to populations most at risk.
- Support the development of challenging service strategies.
- Challenge existing practices and incorporate progressive outreach solutions based on best practices.
- Identify and manage income sources to support service delivery.
- Negotiate Service Level Agreements and additional income for new services with external agencies where appropriate.
- Collaborate with partner agencies to ensure compatible delivery plans and maximise efficiency.
- Assist in the development and preparation of capital and revenue business cases.
- Provide project management support for locally managed revenue and capital improvement projects.
- Work with partner-supported services to deliver efficient and effective plans.
- Lead strategic planning for outreach service capacity, workforce, and annual plans.
- Manage business and finance systems in accordance with the Trust’s financial instructions and orders.
- Develop and deliver health promotion and outreach activities strategically, based on data, intelligence, and partnerships with stakeholders from statutory, voluntary, and community sectors – particularly the local authority Public Health teams.
- Proactively raise awareness and provide early interventions for vulnerable and high-risk groups, including universal health promotion, working with young people, and targeted outreach sessions.
- Define targeted health promotion and outreach sessions delivered outside regular hub provision, including health promotion, advice, or clinics for at-risk or hardly reached groups (e.g. MSM, people experiencing homelessness, sex workers, people affected by substance abuse, communities where English is not the first language – and other groups in line with the service specification).
- Manage demand across the whole citizen experience, utilising health promotion and outreach to reduce treatment needs (prevention) and encourage timely service use (early intervention).
- Develop clear plans and programs for health promotion and outreach to meet the needs of target populations, prioritising rapid access to services for at-risk and vulnerable groups.
- Engage and co-design services with citizens, contributing to seamless clinical service pathways.
- Take a strategic approach to the Sexual Health training needs of the whole local health system - ensuring that training needs are developed collaboratively, with both local bespoke and nationally standardised programmes available to support partner agencies, including primary care, voluntary and community sectors.
- Contribute to the identification of performance objectives for health promotion and outreach, and operationally manage their delivery within the Service, in conjunction with the Operational Delivery Group.
- Develop and operate effective reporting arrangements within the Operational Delivery Group to accurately record and monitor performance against local and national targets and to pro-actively manage any variances.
- Develop, implement and monitor action plans for areas of underperformance to ensure achievement of all performance targets.
- Operationally manage the income and expenditure systems of the service(s) including ensuring activity is recorded and day to day expenditure is managed.
- Proactively manage and understand variances in activity and demand for services against agreed activity plans notifying any significant variances, and working with public health colleagues to identify areas of need or changes in risk profile in real time.
- Ensure the provision of optimum quality care in line with national healthcare standards.
- Support the implementation of programs of change to improve clinical care.
- Adopt best practices to support the Trust’s objective of becoming a Centre of Excellence.

- Take a strategic approach to managing and upskilling the non-sexual health workforce working particularly with high-risk or vulnerable groups through training, advice, and networking.
- Regularly review the Health Promotion and Outreach workforce training resources to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
- Work with stakeholders to ensure that the training needs of other services are met effectively, and ensure staff have reciprocal training from other agencies where appropriate.
