The Outpatients department at Central Middlesex Hospital consists of a multidisciplinary team comprising of Consultants and their teams, Matron, Lead Nurse, Staff nurses, Healthcare assistants and Phlebotomists

We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring, motivated, calm, responsible and professional Healthcare assistant who has phlebotomy skills and has excellent communication skills to work in our busy phlebotomy department and clinical areas in Outpatients department at Central Middlesex.

The role of the phlebotomist/HCA is to provide support to the phlebotomy service as well as the multi-disciplinary team in the Outpatient clinics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide reassurance and support to patients and family/carers
  • Provide information to enable the effectiveness of the patient journey through Outpatients.
  • To support patients and relatives in distress, and to recognise when advice should be sort from qualified nursing or medical staff.
  • Be able to locate all policies relating to good working practice within the clinical area and adhere to them.
  • Contribute to promotion of good health and participate in health education
  • To maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and health service business in accordance with Trust Confidentiality Policy and the Data Protection Act
  • Assist in the maintenance of accurate record keeping.
LEVEL OF CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITY
  • To obtain blood samples from patients in the phlebotomy department.
  • Participate in the reception of patients and relatives in the clinical area.
  • Receive patients in the clinic / phlebotomy checking patient’s details and providing information as required.
  • At the direction of the registered nurse participate fully in the delivery of planned nursing care.
  • Involve patients and relatives / carers in the delivery of care.
  • To chaperone patients as necessary.
  • Collecting and testing specimens as required and reporting abnormalities.
Preparation of clinic sessions:
  • Ensure rooms are stocked with relevant forms for the clinic or phlebotomy department.
  • Couches /chairs and work surfaces are cleaned before clinic session.
  • Ensure the patients’ notes are ready at start of clinic.
  • Ensure a sufficient supply of equipment is available for each clinic.
  • Ensure all equipment is in good working order.
  • Be aware of own competence and knowledge, asking for assistance where required.
