Somerset Wiltshire Avon and Gloucestershire (SWAG) Cancer Alliance is recruiting a fixed-term Cancer and Domestic Abuse Trainer to deliver Cancer and Domestic Abuse (DA) workforce training across SWAG. The role is a great opportunity for someone who has existing expertise in this field and wishes to be involved in an exciting expansion project, which will help transform cancer pathways and enhance the experience of people with cancer.

The role will champion cancer and DA development that meets the needs of SWAGs broad range of cancer workforce employees. Facilitating delivery of the Macmillan Cancer and Domestic Abuse training package, you will build transparent inclusive training pathways, leading to increased cancer workforce awareness and expertise in cancer and DA.

You will have a passion for learning, and proven design and facilitation skills. A genuine interest in helping others develop, and working collaboratively with others in the team and wider organisation is vital. You will be working closely with SWAG, Acute Provider Lead Cancer Nurses, Clinical teams, Education leads and Safeguarding leads to ensure cancer and DA training pathways are informed around dynamic themes across the organisations and the wider SWAG Cancer Alliance.

The role will support the planning and delivery of the SWAG Cancer and DA Workforce Training project, working with the SWAG Project Manager and other key stakeholders across the programme area.

As a trainer / learning and development facilitator for cancer and DA, you will be delivering non-clinical development programmes using innovative methods of education to support classroom delivery, digital and work-based learning. You will be working across SWAG locations facilitating programmes, including engaging learners and their managers who are working in a dynamic and challenging environment.

The majority of the role will be training delivery, and there will be opportunities to get involved in relevant SWAG training and development projects if capacity allows.

The role will report to the SWAG Project Support Coordinator and work closely with the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust Lead Cancer Nurse and Oncology Education Lead, who will provide clinical supervision and support to ensure synergy of content and purpose.

We need an experienced workforce trainer to deliver Cancer and Domestic Abuse (DA) workforce training across SWAG. You will be part of a dynamic team to drive forward the adoption of large scale clinical transformation and change to improve outcomes for patients and enable successful delivery of the ambitions of the Long-Term Plan for Cancer.

SWAG CA is hosted by North Bristol NHS Trust for the purposes of formal employment and the provision of back-office support to the Cancer Alliance.

Key Responsibilities and activities
  • Support the planning and delivery of the SWAG Cancer and DA Workforce Training project, working with the SWAG Lead Nurse and Project Manager and other key stakeholders across the programme area.
  • To deliver specialist Cancer and Domestic Abuse training to the Cancer workforce across SWAG.
  • To work closely with key partners within SWAG Acute providers.
  • To identify resources required to deliver assigned work.
  • Delivery / facilitation to small and large groups, across a diverse group of learners
  • Co-ordinating multiple learning events and maintaining a training calendar.
  • Course evaluation and monitoring quality outcomes.
  • Working with a Learning Management System.
  • Managing, development and delivery of domestic abuse training.
  • Managing and monitoring mandatory training compliance.
  • Working in a large complex multi-site organisation with diverse stakeholder needs.
  • Analysing training needs both on individual and larger scale.
  • Communicating and building relationships with a wide group of learners and stakeholders across various roles and divisions to understand and meet cancer and DA needs.
  • Writing clear communications including emails to learners, presentations, training resources, newsletters and other formats.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations to give information and increase awareness of cancer and DA, including identification and safely responding to red flags and understanding the support offer available.
  • Demonstrating and embedding organisational values and leadership messages throughout all communications.
  • Acting as a role model and ambassador of education which promotes the reputation of the organisation as a beacon of outstanding learning.
  • Providing feedback on programmes and learning participation and progress to stakeholders.
  • Communicating with Cancer Alliance partners and other NHS bodies to ensure collaborative working and maximisation of resources.
  • Facilitating small and large group cancer and DA training events and team development activities (with all levels of employees.)
  • Using questioning and listening behaviours to encourage participation and acknowledge contributions.

Motivating and inspiring employees to raise aspirations, maintain momentum and encourage progression to higher levels.
