FOSTER Summer Placement - Finance
The FOSTER programme's enhanced internship scheme provides students an opportunity to gain work experience within the growing UK fusion industry. The FOSTER programme is looking to build the talent pipeline into the industry. Over the past three years, 83 students have participated in placements in 20 host organisations around the UK, with many receiving offers of employment after their graduation.

As a Finance Intern at Tokamak Energy, you will support the finance team in various tasks and projects that provide valuable insights and experience in the finance industry, with a focus on the fusion energy sector. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain practical knowledge and develop essential skills that will benefit your future career in finance, specifically within the innovative field of fusion energy.
In this role, you will:
- Gain an insight into working in a busy finance team with an introduction to all aspects of the functional responsibilities and exposure to senior stakeholders
- Support to the annual Group budgeting process including:
- Data analysis of submissions from departments
- Assistance with the Group’s budget consolidation model
- Attendance at budget review meetings
- Support to the financial accounting team including
- Purchase ledger
- Month end process and production of the monthly reports
- Studying a relevant Degree
- Excellent excel and Microsoft office 365 skills
- Knowledge of key financial concepts, principles, and regulations
- Motivated and enthusiastic with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with team members
- Effective communication skills both written and oral
- Good planning and organisation skills with the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines
- A proactive attitude with the willingness to learn and take on new challenges
- 6 days holiday (plus bank holidays)
- The placement has a maximum duration of 10 weeks.
- The salary is £23,809 per annum, pro-rated and paid monthly.
- Accommodation cover aren't offered for the student placements.
