The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Head of Marketing & Data to lead on the development, implementation and ongoing management of all marketing activities in Defence. You will lead a talented team of marketing professionals, ensuring that all marketing efforts align with the company and portfolio’s goals and objectives and effectively promote our brands, products and events.

This role demands a strategic thinker with a strong background in live events. The role requires a motivating leader with excellent people leadership and management skills. The role will report to the Head of Marketing and Growth who will have responsibility of driving success for both live events and digital products across the Defence Portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership
  • Managing a team of ~10 marketers, building a high-performing marketing team, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration and joint success across brand, campaign and marketing operations functions.
  • Setting clear performance goals, providing regular feedback and coaching.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders in a matrixed organisation, including senior management, sales teams, and external partners.
Campaign Management
  • Managing a team of campaign marketers to execute on the marketing strategy for live events.
  • Working closely with our Central Marketing function to shape the campaign strategy for Defence, ensuring that both live and digital goals are captured in the plan.
  • Implementing Pardot to automate year-round marketing campaigns and using this to provide a platform for showcasing our digital offers and content.
  • Leading the drive to introduce and deliver multi-channel campaigns which grow reach and amplify our brands.
Brand Management
  • Taking ownership of our event websites and brand management, including DSEI, DSEI Japan, UDT, ITEC and APEX, working closely with our Event Directors.
  • Ensuring consistency in brand messaging across all channels and marketing materials.
  • Overseeing the development and execution of branding initiatives to enhance brand awareness and loyalty.
  • Managing a brand team to develop go-to-market strategies and promotional plans for new product launches.
Marketing Operations and Analytics
  • Establishing Event and Digital KPIs to measure the success of marketing campaigns and initiatives.
  • Utilising data analytics and insights to continuously refine marketing strategies, optimise campaigns and drive performance improvements.
  • Responsible for governance and management of our data in line with GDPR.
  • Creating and delivering dashboards and reports, creating a self-serve model which empowers everyone to make informed, insight-led, decisions that target our critical success factors as defined in our event strategies.
  • Monitoring and reporting on the financial performance of marketing initiatives to senior management.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Behaviours:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven track record of success in marketing leadership roles in events.
  • Experience in managing and leading teams across a matrix organisation.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights and initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in developing and executing integrated marketing campaigns across digital and traditional channels.
  • Proficiency in marketing automation platforms, CRM systems, and analytics tools – Pardot, Power BI experience desired, Microsoft Dynamics preferable but not essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, prioritise initiatives and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Curiosity to challenge the status quo and a hunger to build something and create an impact.
