Senior Occupational Therapist - Stamford Unit

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Senior OT position within our rehabilitation unit. The post holder will provide skilled occupational therapy assessments, treatment and advice to adult patients on the intermediate care unit. They will undertake a leading role in the assessment, diagnosis and formulation of therapy treatment goals as well as advising and treating patients, carers, families and staff of other agencies.

The post holder will also provide daily leadership within the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) with other therapists, nursing staff, Technical Instructors, Health Care Therapy Assistants, students and other health professionals visiting the unit.

Main duties of the job
  • Support the Band 7 Intermediate Care Therapy Team Lead to operationally manage the 7 day service
  • Assess patients for their potential for rehabilitation and suggest therapy goals
  • Manage a rehabilitation clinical caseload alongside others within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Work as an autonomous practitioner
  • Provide a quality occupational therapy service to patients receiving intermediate care and rehabilitation.
  • Ensure a range of therapies are on offer daily to patients including group activities and one to one interventions.
  • Ensure professional and legal standards are maintained.
  • Liaise with other members of the MDT to ensure that the intermediate care service contributes to timely and appropriate patient discharge home.
  • Contribute to the Trust objective to reduce length of stay whilst ensuring a high standard of patient care and achievement of therapy outcome measures.
  • Line manage a cohort of staff from the MDT
  • Work across 7 days per week including weekend days and Bank Holidays

  • • Degree (BSc) in Occupational Therapy
  • • HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
  • • Leadership qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Post graduate experience of working with complex medical and long term conditions
  • • Experience in working within a multidisciplinary team
  • • Post graduate experience and knowledge in 3 or more of areas i.e. orthopaedics, amputees, care of the elderly, neurology and Intermediate care.
Desirable criteria
  • • Member of appropriate specialist interest group
  • • Experience in working in Intermediate care
  • • Experience in frailty and dementia care

skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Excellent communication skills – written, verbal and computer skills
  • • Able to demonstrate the implementation of the OT process effectively.
  • • Ability to manage and prioritise own caseload
  • • Ability to work under pressure
  • • Ability to delegate tasks appropriately
  • • Ability to recognise own abilities and limitations
  • • Evidence of recent CPD
  • • Holds a current driving license and access to a vehicle for work
