Lead Pharmacy Technicians work alongside the Principal Pharmacy Technician and the Lead Pharmacists to ensure delivery of high quality pharmaceutical services to patients within the community hospitals to promote the safe, effective and efficient use of medicines within the organisation through the implementation of the medicines optimisation strategy.

Main duties of the job

Lead Pharmacy Technicians play a key leadership role within the team and

contribute to its success by being a role model; supervising more junior members of the team (qualified and unqualified) and students to ensure they are working to the professional standards required. They will ensure that training and competence are maintained.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ in Pharmacy Services Level 3 with BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science as underpinning knowledge or BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent.
  • General Pharmaceutical Council Registration as a Pharmacy Technician
Desirable criteria
  • Member of HIV Pharmacy Association (HIVPA)
  • Practice supervisor’s qualification or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post-qualification experience in a Hospital or other clinical setting.
  • Experience of line management of staff
  • Able to maintain own Continuing Professional Development, with an on-going portfolio of competence-based evidence.
  • Significant Clinical experience working in the HIV and sexual Health Specialty Dispensing experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in training other pharmacy staff.
  • Experience in training other healthcare professionals.

Knowledge

  • Able to maintain confidentiality and communicate sensitive information to appropriate persons in accordance with Data Protection Act
  • Experience in training other healthcare professionals.
