This is an exciting opportunity for a Ward Receptionist to join a diverse and motivated team that are dedicated to the development of skills and the delivery of high quality safe care.

As the Ward Receptionist you will often be the first point of contact for the patients and visitors when entering the ward so a friendly, welcoming smile and excellent communication skills are essential.

As a caring and positive person you will need to be able to work as part of an established team, have the ability to work flexibly and be committed to ensuring the smooth running of reception.

We are looking for an individual who is self motivated, content with working in a busy environment and who has good time management skills. You must have excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.

It is essential that you act professionally at all times, have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritise your own work load.

The post holder will be required to provide a professional, efficient and comprehensive reception service within Ward E37 and the Children's Assessment Unit at QMC. Fulfilling all necessary reception, clerical, administrative and general tasks required to facilitate and record patient treatment using paper based health records and information technology systems.

Staff are expected to be courteous and considerate at all times and have excellent customer care skills.

After appropriate training the post holder will be required to utilise the hospital Medway PAS computer system to capture and update necessary data, and to use the case note tracing system to accurately record the movement of paper base health records.

The role requires close liaison with other disciplines and the provision of a courteous, reliable and quality consumer service to patients, relatives and carers, health professional, internal departments and outside organisations.

CAU and E37 is a busy, fast paced admissions and long stay medical ward. Caring for children and young people with an array of medical needs.

We recognise responsibility to ensure that staff are developed and stimulated within their environment in order to achieve vision and deliver care that reflects the values and behaviours of the team.

To provide a welcoming and friendly reception to patients, visitors, and members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team.

Deal with enquiries in person or by telephone in an efficient and polite manner.

To create and file Health record Folders.

To maintain confidentiality of patient information – following the I.G Code at all times.

To locate and retrieve Health records from around the Trust.

To organise Interpreting Services as required.

To accurately maintain Hospital Computer systems.

To organise for patients to attend their follow up appointments upon discharge including alterations and cancellations of appointments promptly and within the Consultant’s booking rules.

To ensure that the reception area is clean and tidy.

To undertake all extra Clerical duties attached to the post.

To record patient attendances and accurate data on Medway PAS.

To prepare the required health records ready for the consultation together with any relevant diagnostic, social and personal information required.

To confirm at each patient visit that all recorded details are complete and accurate e.g. GP, address, telephone number, and to amend these on Medway PAS and within written health records as required.

Undertake the distribution and collection of information for surveys and audits as required
