Job overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Chief Pharmacy Technician to lead the development and daily coordination of our expanding Homecare Medicines service.

This senior role sits at the centre of a dynamic pharmacy department, offering the opportunity to influence how patients receive safe, timely and high quality care at home.

You will manage a centralised homecare team, ensuring services across multiple specialties are consistent, efficient and patient focused, while partnering with specialist pharmacists to support innovative pathways and new models of care.

You will provide visible leadership, strategic thinking and strong organisational skills, shaping our homecare vision, aligning processes and empowering staff within a collaborative, forward thinking environment.

Main duties of the job
  • Lead a centralised homecare service that supports patient care across multiple specialties, influencing how medicines are delivered beyond the hospital setting.
  • Shape the future of homecare at the Trust by contributing to strategy, service development and standardisation of processes.
  • Manage and develop a dedicated homecare team, providing line management, training, mentorship and opportunities for staff growth.
  • Work collaboratively with senior pharmacists, clinicians, finance teams and homecare providers, building strong internal and external relationships.
  • Take ownership of homecare contracts and SLAs, with responsibility for monitoring provider performance, KPIs, quality and compliance.
  • Drive continuous service improvement through data analysis, trend review, audit activity and problem solving.
  • Play a key role in financial oversight, including invoice validation, pricing accuracy, debt reduction and efficient management of statements of account.

Education/ qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BTEC or NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences (or 5 years equivalent recognised pharmacy technician qualification or experience)
  • Registered with the GPhC
  • Mandatory professional CPD as defined by GPhC
  • Extensive post registration specialist training in area(s) relevant to the post, or equivalent qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent & significant post-registration experience working as a pharmacy technician• Recent & significant post-registration experience working as a pharmacy technician
  • Experience in pharmacy homecare
  • Experience in a team leadership role.
  • Experience of completing audits, reviewing data and analysing trends in order to inform service improvement.
  • Experience of financial management
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience using CMM including the homecare module

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential criteria
  • Good clinical practice knowledge
  • Good computer and IT skills including Excel, Word and ability to adopt new IT skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative and effectively as part of a team both within pharmacy and a multidisciplinary environment
  • Ability to move comfortably between a number of highly skilled tasks, proactively and quickly picking up new issues and working with limited guidance and supervision, but guided by principles, policies and regulations.
  • Occasional exposure to emotional or distressing circumstances when dealing with complaints, or investigating drug errors
