An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Clinical Diabetes Research Nurse or Dietician to join the Leicester Diabetes Centre (LDC) based at the Leicester General Hospital (LGH) University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

The LDC is one of the largest facilities in Europe for conducting first class clinical research in diabetes and other long terms health conditions. The LDC hosts the Biomedical Research centre Lifestyle group and the Patient Recruitment Centre (PRC) which is one of five centres in the UK, dedicated to setting up and delivering late phase commercial clinical trials in the NHS at pace and scale.
PRC Leicester is hosted by the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and based at Leicester General Hospital. By attracting more commercial research to the UK, we increase opportunities for NHS patients to access cutting edge treatment and therapies that are not yet widely available through the NHS.

We work across the region, through our partners and stakeholders, to ensure as many people as possible are given an opportunity to take part in research.

The post holder must have the ability to manage their own time and prioritise their own workload. The post requires flexibility and the ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. No experience in research or diabetes technology is essential, and all training (research or clinical as required) will be provided.

We are looking for a highly motivated, hardworking and enthusiastic registered health care professional to assist in the delivery of a high-quality clinical research with expertise in diabetes and in particular Type 1 diabetes and technology, in accordance with ICH-GCP guidelines for the conduct of clinical research trials.

The post holder will always act in accordance with their professional of Conduct and Practice, Scope for Professional Practice and all associated guidelines.

To work alongside Principal Investigators and the research team to assist in the delivery of high-quality research, professional advice, support, guidance and education to the multi-professional team, patients and carers within the research service.

Work will be in accordance with ICH-GCP guidelines for the conduct of clinical research trials.

The post holder will provide the highest standards of patient care in line with research protocols and will ensure that such research safeguards the well-being of the patients and non-patients participants and is conducted within ICH Good Clinical Practice guidelines for research.

This is a full-time post, based at Leicester General Hospital. Travel may be required between sites within the Trust and to Primary Care locations within Leicestershire to support departmental activities and there will be a requirement for early/late shifts and weekend work.

The main responsibilities of the post holder will be to work closely with Prof Pratik Choudhary who is Professor and Honorary consultant in Diabetes and also chair of the Diabetes Technology Network-UK. He is looking for someone to work closely with him on a variety of research projects around diabetes and technology, someone who is keen to take on a challenge, learn new skills and who is great with our patients and participants.

In particular the post-holder will help in recruitment and study delivery of a number of studies based around the use of novel diabetes technology, including the latest closed loops, apps and connected devices. The job will involve a mix of clinical care, delivery of clinical studies and education.

We expect the person to be able to work flexibly, according to demands of the particular studies or study participants. The successful candidate will have at least two years post-registration experience, demonstrate competency in clinical skills in the speciality of diabetes with a passionate interest in Type 1 diabetes and the emerging evidence base for technology and treatments.
