Applications are invited for a permanent 10 PA ophthalmology consultant to The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Foundation Trust Department of Ophthalmology.
The post holder will be required to cover general ophthalmology. We seek an enthusiastic surgeon to enhance the current ophthalmic services and applicants should wish to be part of and develop the department in the future.
Main duties of the job
This position will clinically support the ophthalmology department and will be responsible for transforming the way in which we provide ophthalmology services at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital through application of Royal College and national recommendations such as Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) to deliver a sustainable and modern ophthalmology department.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities- Roles of the post
- Responsibility for inpatient and outpatient management of ophthalmology patients with the craniofacial, general plastics, burns and Mohs dermatology services, to provide the highest possible standards of care in diagnosis and management of children and adults with ophthalmic abnormalities.
- Weekly outpatient clinics and lists.
- Close working with MOHs dermatology and cranio-plastics service to facilitate joint working in outpatients and during joint operating lists.
- Involvement in an on-call service in conjunction with the North West London ophthalmic services (1:26) and contribution to postgraduate teaching
- Contribution to undergraduate curriculum through lectures, tutorials, SSMs and OSCE’s

Person specification
Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria- Full GMC Registration
- Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by PMET/GMC by date if Advisory Appointments Committee (AAC))
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register OR eligible within 6 months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee
- FRCOphth or equivalent
- Good understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council.
- BSC or higher postgraduate training
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria- Evidence of broad-based training
- Sub-specialty training to fellowship level
- Evidence of teaching to meet the requirements of junior doctors and nurses
- Evidence of continuing medical education (existing consultants must demonstrate active participation in CPD)
- Wide and in-depth training in cataract surgery
- Track record in delivering management initiatives
- Perform cataract surgery independently
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria- Solid Understanding of the Clinical Governance Agenda
- Evidence of effective audit leading to change
- Evidence of significant contribution to Clinical Governance
Research
Essential criteria- Demonstrates an understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research
- Experience of implementing evidenced based changes in practice
- Peer reviewed publications
- Evidence of recent or ongoing research
Teaching, Training & Management
Essential criteria- Experience of undergraduate teaching and postgraduate training
- A good understanding of the role of clinical management
