Job Description:

Estates Officer An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Estates Officer to join a well-established managed services provider supporting the healthcare sector. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the day-to-day operational management of Engineering, Building, and Grounds Maintenance teams.

The successful candidate will ensure a high-quality, cost-effective, and fully compliant maintenance service across the estate, working with both in-house staff and external contractors. You'll also provide technical leadership, ensure regulatory compliance, and contribute to broader strategic planning.

This full-time, permanent role includes participation in an on-call rota to provide 24/7 estates support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and oversee reactive and planned maintenance programmes to meet statutory and HTM compliance.
  • Manage, lead, and develop a multidisciplinary team including engineering, building, and grounds staff.
  • Oversee work carried out by contractors, ensuring quality, safety, and cost-efficiency.
  • Act as Authorised Person (AP) in relevant disciplines and ensure HTM standards are maintained.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and customers, communicating work schedules and resolving issues effectively.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed works, certification, and compliance documentation.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure a safe working environment for all activities.
  • Regularly inspect engineering systems and develop costed maintenance strategies.
  • Ensure technical training is current for all estates personnel.
  • Provide guidance on projects and prepare estimates for minor works.
  • Support HR processes, budget monitoring, business continuity, and contribute to environmental goals.
  • Participate in the department’s emergency on-call rota.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Degree/HND/HNC or equivalent in a relevant engineering or building services discipline (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services Engineering).
  • Demonstrable experience in estates or facilities management within a complex environment—preferably healthcare or public sector.
  • Recognised Health & Safety qualification (e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH) desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory regulations and HTM compliance standards.
  • Authorised Person (AP) or Responsible Person (RP) status in relevant areas, or willingness to attain.
  • Proven experience managing and developing technical teams and working with external contractors.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • IT literacy, including familiarity with CAFM systems and reporting tools.
  • Commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement.
