Job overview

Are you an experienced mental health clinical leader, passionate about shaping high-quality community services? We are looking for a dynamic Head of Nursing. This is an exciting time to join, with great opportunities to influence developments and contribute to the evolution of our Urgent Care Pathway.

The post holder will be working closely with the Associate Director of Nursing and will be expected to demonstrate strong nursing leadership and provide highly specialist nursing advice. The post holder will provide professional leadership/support to senior clinicians and managers within the Trust to ensure robust arrangements are in place to support and promote clinical practice developments, this will be achieved through adopting co-production approach to changes and improvements within the organisation.

The post holder will be expected to provide support, guidance and represent the broad views of nurses within the services and will need to achieve a level of visibility that enables these goals to be met. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the development of and lead on the implementation of key aspects and the annual work plan of the nursing strategy.

They will support the development of and lead the Nurse Advisory Group/Lead Professionals Group and participate in practice Safety and Quality forums and nursing forums across the Trust, as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

In this role, you will oversee our Crisis Home Treatment Team (CRHTT), Mental Health Liaison Team (MHLT), Psychiatric Clinical Decision Unit (PCDU), Place of Safety (POS), NHS111 and Liaison and Diversion (LIDI) providing strong nursing leadership, ensuring high standards of professional practice, and driving service improvement and innovation.

To be a proactive member of the Senior Management Team in the directorate who together ensure the effective delivery of all of its services. Provide strong visible nursing leadership within area of responsibility and specialist advice to staff working within all services within the Trust.
Responsible for monitoring and improving the quality of care (nursing) within the services and provide specific and specialist advice on nursing issues. To develop and establish networks for the profession both within and outside the organisation.
To ensure representation of the nursing profession at forums within the organisation, and with other agencies and providers and take up the role of the Chair for meetings when required. To act responsively in providing additional advice and support to services and staff in circumstances such as the occurrence of adverse incidents.

Ensure that nursing, safety and quality are at the centre of service area planning, analysis and delivery through co-production and promoting continuous improvements.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Experience in a senior nursing position
  • Masters level or equivalent experience

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences, verbally and in written reports
  • Knowledge of IT, including Microsoft Office and Power Point
  • Proven track record of achieving objectives
  • Flexibility - adapts to ensure achievement of objectives within changing environment
  • Excellent Clinical and Clinical Leadership skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial Experience of managing people
  • Experience of working in Urgent Care (Crisis Pathway) services
  • Experience of developing policies and procedures
  • Experience of managing change and associated behaviours
  • Experience of managing resources including financial resources
