Job overview

Please note: there are two full-time roles available.

The successful post holders will join the NHS England Thames Valley and Wessex Primary Care School to provide project support for Training Hub and Primary Care School colleagues both within Thames Valley and Wessex and across the South East.

The projects of work will enable the promotion, provision and management of multi-professional educational activities.

You will work with the Primary Care Team, supporting Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) and Locality Training Hubs as well as GP practices and wider Primary Care. We are looking for someone who is solution-focused, enthusiastic and supportive.

You will communicate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, working across a complex system to achieve the expected outcomes of the workforce agenda.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be responsible for coordinating and delivering programmes of work as a member of the Primary Care School working with health and care stakeholders across defined localities, as well as with relevant regional and national colleagues if required.

You will develop effective, targeted work plans to include performance monitoring and establish accountability to ensure completion whilst adhering to set deadlines. You will work to deliver activity within budget and compile business cases to qualify expenditure.

You will be responsible for fulfilling policies and procedures within the managed function.

The postholder will need knowledge of project principles and experience of business planning, budget monitoring and performance evaluation. You will also have line management responsibilities and have previously developed and managed a team.

NHS England has a Flexible Working Policy; there is an expectation that employees will be in the office environment for an average of 40% of their working week.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

NHS England hold a Sponsor Licence; this means that we may be able to sponsor you providing the Home Office requirements are met. To be eligible for sponsorship through the Skilled Worker route you’ll usually need to be paid the ‘standard’ salary rate of at least £38,700 per year, or the ‘going rate’ for your job, whichever is higher.

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to establish, communicate and maintain effective working relationships in a confident manner with colleagues, partners and stakeholders at all levels across the SE
  • Demonstrate capability to present, be diligent and explain highly complex, or sensitive information to large groups or differing stakeholder groups where challenge or resistance may exist e.g. formal presentations, representation at formal meetings
  • Ability to collate complex qualitative and quantitative information and produce meaningful analysis of information to support decision making. Includes drafting reports and other documents as required for senior managers and stakeholders in the organisation and beyond

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to post graduate level or equivalent level of knowledge of working at a similar level in specialist area
Desirable criteria
  • Completed or studying for a recognised project management qualification, e.g. PRINCE2

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience of managing a team and achieving objectives by working with others not under direct line management control
  • Experience of line managing and developing team members
  • Knowledge of project principles, techniques and tools
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of working with GP practices and partner organisations across the health and care system
  • Knowledge of the structure and organisation of the healthcare education and training sector (for example, the delivery of courses and student placements) the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders and the mechanics for workforce planning
