About the role
Balfour Beatty is seeking a Pre-construction Manager to join our dynamic Power Transmission & Distribution business unit.
Ideal location: Aberdeenshire or Central Belt
Power T&D is entering a phase of major growth, with key projects moving through Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and pre-construction. These stages are crucial as they bridge business development and project delivery, shaping the entire construction phase.
The Pre-Construction Manager will oversee projects from ECI through detailed design to site start, ensuring a smooth transition through the Gated Lifecycle process. This includes governance compliance, risk management, and developing strong proposals.
This new role focuses on executing ECI and Stage One contracts for key clients, SSEN Transmission and National Grid Electricity Transmission. It also involves collaborating across Power T&D to share expertise and establish industry-leading standards
What you'll be doing- Support the development of the commercial and pricing strategy.
- Act as the main customer contact for assigned projects, working alongside the operational lead.
- Guide and motivate the pre-construction/ECI team from feasibility to final submission.
- Develop win strategies to transition projects from feasibility to construction.
- Ensure high-quality feasibility and delivery agreement submissions.
- Clearly define and communicate strategy and objectives to the team.
- Work with the Design Lead to meet CDM 2015 Principal Designer obligations.
- Manage design meetings and consultant outputs effectively.
- Champion health & safety by design, reducing risks before construction.
- Implement Balfour Beatty standards and share best practices.
- Encourage collaboration across teams for continuous improvement.
- Prepare monthly reports and communicate key updates to stakeholders.
- The role requires an individual who is organised, able to manage a broad range of stakeholders and implement strategies to overcome technical challenges;
- They will have the ability to bring the best out of the pre-construction team while drawing on the capability of other colleagues in the region and the wider business;
- The individual will be from an infrastructure background; with key attributes of technical civil engineering and/or electrical engineering capability combined with a collaborative mindset;
- The individual will be motivated by working in an environment with highly skilled colleagues where continuous improvement and teamwork are part of business as usual.
