Clinical Fellow – Major Trauma
This is an exciting time to work with a multi-specialty group of Major Trauma Consultants, Major Trauma Coordinators, Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) to look after the varied injuries of one of our sickest groups of patients.
There will be a significant opportunity to learn further about trauma management from a number of perspectives. This includes optimal reception phase care from our ED consultants, regional analgesia and airway management from our Intensivists, visceral trauma management from our General and Cardiothoracic surgeons, Orthopaedic trauma management from our specialist Orthopaedic surgeons and managing associated medical conditions in the context of trauma from our rehabilitation and frailty teams.
You would also be encouraged to bring your relevant skills and knowledge to the support, learning and development of junior doctors, ACPs, Nurses and AHPs within the team. Duties will include (as part of a team): Presenting new admissions and current inpatients to the Major Trauma board round Attending the daily Consultant led Major Trauma ward round on the Major Trauma ward as well as intensive care/high dependency and other speciality wards with Major Trauma patients.Working with the Major Trauma MDT to ensure that all patients have an appropriate management plan in place for each speciality. Ensuring tasks pertinent to the care of major trauma patients on the major trauma ward, and outlying wards where necessary, are completed.
Completing Trauma Tertiary Surveys TTS on Major Trauma patients and ordering and reviewing/ actioning additional imaging as indicated. Ensuring that updated specialist radiology reports are reviewed and acted upon, and ensuring incidental findings are recorded and management or further investigation is actioned as required.
Working with the Major Trauma rehabilitation team to ensure that rehabilitation prescriptions are completed. Working with the Major Trauma Coordinators and ACPs to complete timely and safe discharge documentation and ensure that patient flow is maintained through the service.
Attending Hospital trauma calls as able to provide support to the Trauma Team. Ensuring all new patients admitted to the trauma ward are appropriately clerked. Attending Trauma governance meetings Undertaking research or audits in line with individual interest and service needs., personal and professional development. Undertaking quality improvement projects to further develop the major trauma service.
Attending theatre or another specialist environment to continue to develop professionally as the rota allows. The post holder will be professionally accountable to the Major Trauma Coordinating Trauma Consultant of the Day and managerially accountable to the Clinical Lead for Major Trauma.
